Anyone have any serious buyers remorse purchasing a Sager?

I've been researching Sager/Pro-Star which are resellers for Clevo(ODM) and they always rate poorly on quality, customer satisfaction and service. How have the forum users experiences been? I know Voodoo, Alienware, as well as several others are reselling the same models at higher prices. Voodoo has the M-Class which are the 5660/8886 for twice the price. What the heck makes their's any better? I just don't want to get burned after shelling out $2500. I was thinking about buying from powernotebooks.com because they have outstanding reviews on resellerratings.com and they made me feel comfortable after speaking with a rep for about 20 mins on their guarantee. Any feed back, positive or negative will help.

You can actually save a few $$$ by purchacing from the owners of this forum! PcTorque has better prices than powernotebooks.com.

Well there is really NO difference between the more expensive area 51, etc... and the Sagers other than maybe the "brand" name. As far as quality and service, Both are wonderful. My 86 has been on for probably a month now and hasnt showed anything wrong with it. Earlier I had my motherboard (probably the video card) go bad and Sager replaced it right away and had it back to me in 3 days i believe, free of charge. I think that I had one of the two major problems ive heard about on the forum. So out of all these people, me and one other person had major problems with their lappy, and both of our lappys were fixed right away. Anyway, i would DEFINATELY recomend that you check out PCTorque for ordering, Adam is a great guy to order from and has been VERY helpful.

Any other questions? just ask...

I was gonna buy my lappy from powernotebooks.com, but PCTorque has better price. And Adam is very quick in his email replys (despite his claim of not typing well).

How have the forum users experiences been?
My dad purchased in 1998 a Sager NP6604T,
233MMX
4.0 GB 2.5" Toshiba HDD
14.4 XGA
64MB SDRAM
24X CD Rom
100 Meg Zip Drive

It is still rock solid, Yes slow to todays standards but still runs great. Soon to buy a new Sager 8887 in Feburary for college.

PCTORQUE

Go to reseller ratings. Im not sure were you went, but if you check out pctorques feedback, i believe its un-believeably perfect. But its all true. Plus, you WONT find a better, more friendly (considering todays...events hehehe)and informative forum. It is also growing VERY rapidly. Ive got a 5660 C, and am in total awe of it and the service, and this forum. Everyone is amazingly honest and cool. Anyway, those other resellers (alienware) are overpriced and overhyped. They will rip you. And if you want color for your laptop, www.pctorque.com will hook you up. Adam is as cool as ice, which is who you should talk to.

I have had my 5660 for a little over one month. I love it. I bought mine from PCTorque and the experience was great. Highly recommended.

PCTorque, the forums, and Sagers rule. I would put this 8886 up against any software I can find and it takes it beautifully... and in terms of longevity, I expect it would live as long or outlast any other...

beepster, on that note i had some thoughs.. how long will this laptop last?

Usually a laptop last me for about a year and a half or two years before a component blows up, and the laptop is usually shaky anyway (random crashes, etc)

I had a dell that sucked in crap that eventually shorted something on the motherboard. It also had heat problems more and more when the fan died and I didn't know about it.

My friend has a Sharp laptop thats almost 9 months old and the battery contacts are getting lose, so when he picks it up on one side the whole thing shorts and resets.

but also my friend has an 8088 laptop that still runs fine, so i'm not sure...

How do you think the sager will do? It seems to me that it has more points of failure (more open area to suck in dirt, two cooling fans, probably A LOT of IF sheilding ). However I think it should outlast a DELL but probably not a toshiba.

Usually by the time the laptop dies its obsolete anyway...,

Well, judging by how the 8886 I have has held up, I'm thinking it will last a while. I've seen other laptops of big brands crap up, and it's usually because of dust and the like, so just make sure and keep an eye on the intake fans at the bottom. On my cooler mod, the fans haven't had any dust develop. My own lappy, however, gets a nice coat of dust on its fans every few days so I have to make sure and wipe it off. Funny thing is it has tiny fans compared to the sager :-) The build quality on the 8886 is excellent, though. This one has shipped more than once and it's got no dead pixels and it runs like its brand new. I just reformatted and set it up for its new owner and it's flying :-) I'm gonna miss it terribly. :-) But its new owner will most definitely love it.

I don't know that you would have... for what that laptop cost then, I could have an 8886 now!

I'll let you guys know exactly what I get as soon as I see the new options... and you'll have a review of it just like the first one (well, I'll be in school, but once spring break comes around I'll prolly type it up in detail).
