Feel free to share & explain what distro and/or system you use or have used in the past.

I dual-boot my desktop with Mandrake 10, and my Dell 9300 laptop runs on Ubuntu Hoary.

No dual boot!

We use Linux on my dual Opteron, my wife's dual Xeon, my daughter's Toshiba 3000-S304 laptop, my wife's Dell D600 laptop and my Dell M70 laptop.

Just doing our part to eliminate Microsoft's death grip.

Well, until gimp becomes compatible with photoshop plugins (or vendors make their plugins gimp usable) and more game's become supported in linux I am going to have to have to keep windows around for a little while longer.

In the interim, I'm more than happy with linux for most day to day tasks.

Currently using Ubuntu but will switch back to debian soon
Hope I get my 8104 soon so I can install debian on that one too

Laptop/Desktop user
Beta tested and testing for Xandros linux. Have used Mandrake, RH 8, Lycros, SuSE, Fedora, Lindows, and Corel Linux. Xandros Beta *** works on my 9300 Dell. I have X.v.3 running on my Amd64 machine. Nice setup.

currently:

Laptop: Ubuntu Hoary 5.04 amd64
Desktop: VidaLinux (VLOS) 1.1 x86

in the past:
desktop: simplyMepis, Suse 9.1 Pro, Suse 9.1 Personal, Mandrake 10.0 official, RedHat 8
laptop: nearly 20odd distros i can't remember

only reason i am keeping a 15gb windows partition on my lappy drive is because i have a Dell Axim x50v and it doesn't want to sync with linux
post #11 of 17
i am using running kubuntu hoary 5.04 on desktop (dual-boot with winxp) and my laptop is running damn small linux 1.0 exclusively.

I use Linux on desktop for development...and for Americas Army...

Past Distros: Red Hat 9, SuSE 9.0, SuSE 9.1, Gentoo 2004.2, Knoppix, Yoper v2, Novell Linux Desktop 9, Fedora Core 3, Fedora Core 4 Test 2, Fedora Core 1, Fedora Core 2, Solaris 10 (It can run Linux apps natively, :P), and Debian Sid

Current Distro: Ubuntu Hoary 5.04

I must say, out of all of the distro's I have tried, Ubuntu is probablly the best. All of my hardware worked, and all software works out of the box (Except for Apache / PHP / MySQL...meh)...

Also first distro that I didn't have major sound problems with (Sound is perfect)...*hugs Ubuntu*

GCC 4.0 all the way!

I have tried Suse 9.1, 9.2, Mandrake 10, 10.1 Community, VLOS 1.1 x86_64, gentoo 2004, yoper v1, v2(beta), FC3, Knoppix 3.7(i installed to HD), Mepis 3.3, Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary). I think that's it. I think, though there are probably a few others. All of these I have tested on my Sager np4750. My favorite is Ubuntu 5.04. It installed simpy. It detected and installed drivers for everything but my tv-tuner, 4-in-1 flash media reader, FIR. Oh, i also had to finagle the sound slightly to work properly. But it is slick, fast, not too bloated.uge community support. Different, but comfortable default theme, gnome 2.10. I just really like it.

I use it mostly IM, browsing, wordprocessing, image editing, email, games, music(the built in speakers of the np4750 sound so much better in linux than in Windows!), fiddling.

I had so much trouble with My Sager 9860 RAID controller that I got an Asus Z71A and am very happy with my Mandrake 10.2 (mandravia) on it. Even detected the wireless card correctly. I am planning on selling the Sager. And the Asus weighs only 7 lbs.
