ATi X600 w/128MB on the NX8220 vs nVidia 6600 w/128MB on the Tecra M3

Hey;

I have 2 questions.

1. Does anyone know whether the x600 on the NX8220 is underclocked much in the same way the Nvidia 6600 is underclocked on the Tecra M3?

2. In the final analysis, is the x600 on the NX8220 better than the 6600 on the Tecra M3?

If these questions have been answered already, could someone point me to the correct thread? I have browed through quite alot of threads all over NBF and the only onw I saw remotely relevant to my questions was a comparison between the 6600 and the x600 without the consideration of underclocking. That's why I need to ask a more specific question about these two lappys.

Thanks in advance!

1) not underclocked as much, min specs for x600 are much higher in terms of clock rate.

2) the 6600TE (128mb) in the tecra m3 will outperform any/all x600 gpus on the market. Even though it's underclocked, Nvidia gpus typically are clocked reasonably slower than Ati's counterparts (x700 being an exception to this rule). The x700 will outperform the 6600TE and many 6600 regulars, but the high-speed 6600 would beat the x700. Long story short, ati x700 and nvidia 6600 are a better match.

So in the final analysis, the underclocked 6600 w/128MB in the Tecra M3 is still superior to the x600 w/128MB?

Correct

Lets look at it this way

Mobility Radeon X600 at Stock Speeds:

3dMark 2003 Score: -3636-
CPU: Intel Pentium M 1997 MHz
GPU: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600, 398 MHz / 249 MHz (500 effective)
Display Driver: 6.14.10.6497

Resolution: 1024x768 32 bit
OS: Microsoft Windows XP
System Memory: 1024 MB
Video Memory: 128 MB

SCORE: 3dMark Graphic 3636 (not cpu score, graphic score)

Lets compare that to the Performance of the Tecra M3 6600TE
3dMark 2003 Score: 3808
CPU: Intel Pentium M 2129 Mhz
GPU: Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 TE, 223 Mhz / 198 Mhz (400 effective)
Display Driver: 7.1.1.4
Resolution: 1024x768 32 bit
OS: Microsoft Windows XP
System Memory: 1024 MB
Video Memory: 128 MB

SCORE: 3dMark Graphic 3808 (not cpu score, graphic score)

Now imagine if the 6600 was at the 250mhz or 275mhz clock speeds. More performance per clock on the Nvidia gpus.
On the down side, Nvidia gpus do run hotter at lower clocks than Ati's gpus.

But summary:
Extra Slow 6600 (6600TE) = little bit faster than x600
Extra Slow 6600 (6600TE) = Slower than x700
Fast 6600 = close to x700 (x700 can be a tad faster in most cases, but not a significant difference).
