hm, off course you could do that...but why?

i mean, playing with 60 fps (because of vsync^^) all the time @1920x1200, come on, you don´t need af or aa then

(besides, if you lower the res, the quality won´t get better (even with 16xaa + 8xaf)

So at 1920x1200 AA and AF don't do anything at all? Are yuo completely sure about that?

no. off course, if you activate af and aa, even at 1920x1200, you will see the difference...when you look closely.
but you don´t need it, because, like i said, at this resolution every game looks amazing.

so it´s just for your mind, knowing "ah, af and aa are enabled, it HAS to look good/better'

at 1920x1200 I don't us AA but I definalty use AF, if you don't know what either are google them.

Plus it looks like you guys aren't turning up the gfx..... or you got screwed on the 6800go

I tried to duplicate a couple of those hl2 shots....these are at 1440x900, 4xaa, 16x af, and max everything else.

See, now would running HL2 or DoomIII at say 1600X1280 or something like that, but turning up AA and AF to the fullest make the image quality better?
Or was it just that part in the game that didn't require much gpu but still looked amazing!(in the x800 pic)
Yeah, I'm surprised that at 6xAA, there's still so much aliasing. It gets WAY better in that 8xAA screenshot, though, but that renders it unplayable. And those were taken with an XPS Gen 2 (6800 Ultra), not a 9300 (6800)?

yes, they were taken with an xps gen2 (>my sig ^^)
what framerate do you expect @1920x1200 with 16xaf and 8xaa, all driver-optimizations off and max. image quality?!
(i ask that because it sounds like you are a litte bit disappointed about the performance of a xps. let me tell you, there´s no reason for that )
no way in hell that first shot (9300 6xAA) has even any AA applied to it. I call BS.

Nothing but love for the 9300!
Your image quality is too low, that is why your screens appear crappy.

ummm....that pic with the supposive "6x" AA has no AA applied to it.

The reason.............6800 CARDS CAN'T DO 6X!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They only do: 2x, 4x, and 8x (i've heard of a 16x but havn't seen it yet)

setting it to 6x in the game results in 0 AA being applied to the game.

6x is exclusive to ATI cards

Ah, I see. That explains it, then.

Yeah... well, I guess it's because I'm planning on getting a 9300, and if the XPS Gen2 with the 6800 Ultra can't handle 1920x1200 with high AF and AA settings, then there's not much of a chance that the 9300 will be able to manage similar settings. That, and I was hoping that the 6800 Ultra was crazy l33t enough to do something that used to be ridiculously absurd to even suggest (gaming at 1920x1200, WITH high AF and AA settings on).

I never shoulda got rid of my SLI 6800GT setup. I could be playing all maxed with tons of FPS. Oh, well. Slightly less graphics in my mobile iXPS2 (if it EVER ARRIVES) should still be neato!
