can anyone inform me what this machine scores?

3dmark 2005 Score: ~1300-1500 depending upon drivers used and when on AC power.

(if performned on battery -dc-, if you disable all powersaving and maximize gpu and cpu speeds, performance is about the same).

Tecra M3 with the following specs:
2.13ghz
5400RPM Hard Drive
6600 TE 128MB v-ram
1GB DDR-II 400MHz RAM

wow i expected more, i thought somewhere up near 2000 with a 6600.

Yeah, it's a bit of a disappointment.

This has been discussed before, but Toshiba *vastly* underclocks their 6600's. Whether it's for lower heat production or longer battery life (or both) is anyone's guess.

so can it be easily overclocked? if so what sort of 3dmark05 scores are people getting?

The numbers posted by rinthos are about right: 1300 - 1500 3dmark05.

Overclocked? Besides the heat that would be generated in such a small space I believe one guy noted that the memory on the Toshiba 6600 was of poorer quality. That probably means that you'll be able to push the clock on the gpu itself, but probably not on the memory. (Assuming you get past the heat issue)

I would not suggest overclocking (although as mentioned you might have some luck with the GPU). Why? Heat! That's one of the reasons Toshiba used the 6600-TE version of the 6600 in this system. Slower but Less heat.

If you want a faster 6600, pick a different notebook such as a Toshiba Tecra S2 (has a normal 6600, not the TE (underclocked)) version.

just curious if any m3 owners have actually looked at their gpu? If so, what kind of thermal tape/paste does toshiba use? do you think a good lapping and some as5 would help with reducing heat a few degrees C... maybe then the chip could be overclocked slightly for better performance while still in toshibas "thermal range of operation"

Nothing massive now... just like 25Mhz or something like that would prob. increase its ability a little bit. Bring it closer to the 275 stock. or if the lapping/as5 is very effective then 275...

pure speculation tho...

I posted a somewhat similar question on the Hp forums and rinthos gave an excellent reply. It was comparison of the x600 and the 6600 (underclocked).

Akui, do you have the link to this post regarding the poorer quality of the RAM? Thanks alot!

Hmm...looks like alot of likely M3 owners are still pretty cautious about buying it
