According to news article, Compal will be making a 14.1" widescreen for Dell coming around the end of the year.

oh come on, i think 17" is a bit excessive for a laptop. 19"? Are they just trying to get rid of desktops completely?

lol, a 19in laptod screen!!! this 17in screen is huge on my 9300. I could not imagine having a 19in one. they would have to call it a tabletop computer cause it would never fit in someones lap.

For me the size and weight (and features) of the 600m make up a pefect laptop. Light and small enough to carry, and enough features to replace a desktop. Anything heavier/bigger than that is a drag for most non-gamers, non-photo/video editors, etc.

But it is time to retire ol' 600m and replace it with one containing widescreen and newer ports

What will the specs be of the 14 incher?

No body knows yet because the article just said that Dell has asked Compal to develop a 14 inch casing for them. Nothing was said about specs.

I must say in my case 17 inch is perfect for what I was looking for, more a mobile computer than a laptop I carry around all the time. I'd guess a 19 inch would be pretty huge (17 is already pretty big); might be a market for graphical designers/processors lookign for a mobile workstation, not to mention quite a few gaming enthusiasts would probably be interested. (even though this one thinks 17 inch islarge enough ) I'd suppose Dell has figured out that there is a market for a 19 in laptop though, seeing their decision to build one.

END of the Year dude. lol

I think 14.1" is a good size for me... sometimes I feel I have to turn my head (or eyes) a bit too much on a 15.4". We'll see, though, because I love my M60.

I agree, i've been so wanting a 13 or 14" widescreen laptop. I felt the 700m was kinda small, but the 15" is troublesome to carry around.

Damn, this will be perfect. If it comes with x600 I'm going to just loose it!

I ordered a 700m, but I think I will cancel it and wait for the 14.1.

I hope you don't need a lappy now then.... this release is a fair way off!! End of year at least!!

I have my i8600 and a Toshiba A15, so I can wait a little and get a little exercise... Also, Averatec is coming out with a !4" at the end of this month. Worth a look.

Man, I don't care about the case, but they seriously need to put a nice video card in the 600m, or whatever the following one is. I want a system that is small enough to take anywhere, but not too small, and can also play the occasional intensive game.

Don't we all? A 14.1 incher with 128MB+ video graphics (with a decent chip!) would be great, but we will have to wait and see what is in store, it's a fair way off yet. Before then we may see an update on the i6000d graphics chip situation, a good compromise at 15.4" rather than a 17" monster.

That's so sad.

The Inspiron 8600c remains unrivaled in own niche market of users.

15.4 + Mobility 9600 Pro Turbo is the way to go for a gamer + student.
