Sager 9880 (NP9880) release - Page 2

post #21 of 208
This isn´t funny. What are those "mobo improvements" ? This is exactly the same mobo, what are they telling us ? For sure they attached some metal plates here and there.... I gave my good money away, really some money for a notebook, just because it looked as if the GPU will be upgradeable for some time. But now it seems as if there are just two more cards available with no real performance boost and for anything more the whole notebook has to be sent in....

I just see a new AC Adaptor (can be used with 9680 also), a new TVTuner (the same), a new graphic module that also fits in the 9680, and some mysterious improvements but obviously the same mobo.

So I ask myself, why to pay and pay and pay for such an upgrade ? Next generation Notebooks I expect full Dual-Core usability and end-user changeable MXM-Graphics. We can expect first real MXM Notebooks in some months and Dual-Core at the end of the year, also next gen graphics then.

So why should I invest any more cent to upgrade my 9860 when I again have to buy a new device to be on top.... I can live without dual core for another year, but for sure I won´t miss the new high-end graphics which is the main reason I bought this beast. So this is really disappointing for me.

You've just answered your own question....

Let's face it, GPU upgrades are going to cost you money and they are not free. Until recently with the advent of a pluggable GPU, you were *STUCK* with what you bought because they were soldered onto the motherboard. Now, you have the choice to just cough up less money for the upgrade than to spend $Ks to buy a spanking new notebook....

6800Go ultra require modification of the motherboard due to power issue (66W).

But next card with 16 or 24 pipelines will be clocked at 300-350Mhz and will be more powerfull than the actual 6800Go Ultra.

I imagine a 6800Go with 24 pipelines at 325Mhz will have a consumption around 30W ... and with a simple comparaison :

350 x 24 --> 8.4 Gpx/s
350 x 16 --> 5.6 Gpx/s
450 x 12 --> 5.4 Gpx/s

What do you thnik about it ??

New release of GPU card will not use the improvement (i mean better current regulation or something else) and new AC adaptater of the 9880 ...

I do not trust Clevo anymore. Who can say for sure that I won´t have to send my baby in another time end of the year for another upgrade to get the newest graphic module ? And I´m sure this upgrade will be a lot more expensive than just the new module itself - this is what I had in mind and didn´t point out.

What do you think a reasonable cost for the latest video card should be?

Will PC Torque offer the no-dead pixel guarantee on the new Samsung UXGA screen?

$300 tops including installation cost

This could be my next notebook. My 8790 is pretty close to being packed away in a time capsule

For 9860 owners who just recently bought, is this good or bad for us? After reading this thread, I am not sure? =/

Lets try to be realistic, thats not even half the cost of a desktop card that you install yourself.

As far as we have been informed by Sager, anyone with a pending order will be upgraded to the 9880. I beleive the upgrading to a WUXGA or the New tuner will cost more.

Is the 6800 ultra for laptops as fully fleshed out as a desktop 6800 ultra? I think not! If it is the same then why does the 6800u desktop need a molex power connector/ HUGE heatsink etc.?

I think $300.00 is a fair price for a GPU upgrade...any more than that is not worth it...maybe installation cost is extra...shipping also.

........anyone got an idea on the price tag of a 9880? like 2,500-3,000
post #39 of 208
Also with this great release will come the 670 3.8 CPU by the end of this month. At least that is what Intel tells me. As soon as it does I will order it!!!
