Luke will there be an option to purchase a 9880 with a WSXGA+ GLOSSY SCREEN? I don't see it on your site. I would perfer the WSXGA+ Glossy over the UXGA NON GLOSSY.

So far Sager is only selling it with the Wuxga screen, I think the main reason behind this is they are out of stock on the Wsxga+ for the 9860.

A question for Luke:

Will you be offering XP x64 and 4gb memory?

4GB of memory will never work in the 9860 or 9880. Xp 64 will be sold with the 9880 when the manufacturers of the internal components release stable drivers.

Frankly I would stay away from XP64 for the time being. Did you know Avast! is the only virus scanner that works on XP64, aside from Corporate versions of McAfee and Norton?

So Avast! is the only consumer scanner that works.

I doubt there are any anti-trojan scanners that work yet, either.

in the next week or two, microsoft is releasing their antivirus solution. it is an all in one program for viruses/firewall/spyware. it will also have an xp64 version.

According to Microsoft, 32-bit programs will work just fine in xp64. Users can upgrade as new products are released.

Luke,

1) In terms of the new MCE TV tuner, is the external IR box absolutely necessary? Can we just use the computer's integrated IR port instead?

2) Now that we're in the month of May, any word yet on custom paintjobs?

3) Has Clevo/Sager expressed any interest in Lightscribe-enabled optical drives?
so does anyone know anything about this new tv tuner?

is it internal? why is it more expensive? do you need windows xp media edition for it?
If you look at the 7620 model on Sager's website, you will see the following in the configurator:

TV-Tuner
The TV-Tuner for MCE2005 Edition requires Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition.

If this is the case, then Sager and other Clevo resellers should offer the original TV Tuner as well since many will want to choose the technically better Windows XP Professional and not XP Media Center Edition.

As far as the differences, the only major difference would be that the new tuner should have a hardware MPEG encoder for recording, etc. However, this machine is so fast that unless you are trying to do several disk intensive activities at the same time as recording, the software MPEG encoding solution works just fine.

Actually, won't the the old 32 bit programs still work on the new 64 bit Windows?

I've been wanting the new 6800 Ultra for a while, but the price is quite a little over the top...

Isn't that what I just said a few posts back?

Sure, but I'm not talking about an application. Virus scanners are more akin to drivers in the way they have to work w/ the OS.

Read this: McAfee and Norton will not even install:

http://www.vnunet.com/news/1162755

Also, this:

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1791224,00.asp

And note from the 2nd story:

Over at Santa Clara, Calif.-based McAfee Inc., the message was essentially the same: The market for 64-bit computing is not mature enough to justify a full anti-virus rollout.

And that's just virus scanners. I wouldn't be satisfied with the safety of my system without a Trojan Scanner like BOClean or TDS-3 as well.

Is the WUXGA screen being offered right now super glossy or not? And if not, how much better worse is it than the WSXGA?
There are a few types of programs that won't run. or it'll run but in a funny way.

1st we have programs that requires driver access, if they have dependency that links to any of your system drivers and they don't understand the 64bit drivers they won't work. (virtual drives, and other)

2nd we have programs that checks OS version (mostly programs that have differnet price when they are running on desktop or server os). because windows xp x64 is base on win2k3 server code, it reports itself to programs as a Server os. NICE BUG Microsoft! this causes most programs that you buy 25 to 79 bucks won't work. you have to buy their server version that cost 250 to 790+. (antivirus and many other)

3rd programs that requires java / .net framwork / any other programming layers activing running will create minor bugs as some of the programs just have bad coding where it gets confused on how exactly it should run. (P2P clients? memory leaks on many opensource apps)

I'm betting the battery will not last more than 45 min. and the Max Performance will be disabled in PowerMizer.
