My initial budget was $4.5K for "a system" including sales tax.
I actually plugged the figures into Excel, layed out what I wanted in both systems - so essentially it was the same except for the CPU (2.0PM vs 3.6 P4 660HT), GPU (6800DDR3 vs 6800Ultra) and screen res(1680 vs 1900) and warranty (2 yrs addn warranty with Sager vs 4 yrs complete with Dell). The advantage for the Sager was the additional CD/DVD ROM, extra HDD and 64 ready, while the Dell was the UXGA, extra battery life and ultra card.
The only other thing I did not like with the Sager warranty was that it was offsite and had to be mailed and the additional cost with the mailing and insurance versus on-site with the Dell completecare.
In the end, it was very interesting - the Sager from PCT was extremely competitive with the XPSG2 even with the $400, $500, $750 off, 15% off but where the Dell rocked was with the 33% off but when I saw the 35% - it was the clincher (it saved me close to ~$1500).
When the price matrix for the 9880 comes out, I'll update the spreadsheet and see whats gone up and by how much.
I would suggest others who are wavering do the same with the figures in Excel. As I have said, the clincher was the 35% deal which bettered the past and much talked about 33% offered by Dell last time. In the end the extra 2% allowed my budget to upgrade the CPU and lash out on the 100Gb 7200 drive.
Having said all that, I would still go for a PCTorque (sponsors of this site) if I ever decide to go for a Sager beast - great prices and ADP warranty. Emailed Luke a couple of times with questions and he rocked.
It was fun deciding the pros and cons of both systems.
