Help Me Choose NVIDIA OR ATI

Hi guys im going to buy a 9860 computer but i don't know which graphics card to choose. I prefer the one that runs cooler and has a longer life. I had a 8790 but i didn't like the ati 9700 on it because it had overheating issues. So can you help me with these one . I don't want to have any video issues please please please help me choose ( and also tell me the reason of ur dissision ) thank you very very much. If you want another laptop depends on your needs - the 9860 is a great desktop replacement, but it's neither silent nor light. The cooling system is quite effective though, and the noise level is really bearable, at least if compared with a normal (non silent) desktop.

I'd go for the 6800, but it depends on your needs also. I don't game much, but I write OpenGL applications, and the NVidia (OpenGL) drivers are much more stable and less picky - being able to use Pixel Shader 3.0 (real jumps and loops in fragment programs) is nice too. Period.

This forum leaves the impression that the X800 runs hotter too, but I can't verify this, since I don't own one.

Hello Martin Waldegger and thank you for your post. I need a laptop for programming java and maybe later a 3dmax or a maya production. But now i need it for gaming and programming java and other needs. I don't have a desktop because i don't have enough space for it . So any other helps?
