Well I got the notebook and all it good but on my computer when Im playing a mp3 and then minimize the program(winamp) the hd will start to buffer(well that is what I think and it will cut the music out every other sec and if I click on another program it will slow down to like nothing for about 5 secs. Now I have the 60gig 7200rmp drive and 1gig of ram. This should not be happening. Also I plugged in the that wall.

Any Ideas

Are you using MobileMeter or some other HD temp monitor? I found that MM caused a stutter every 6 seconds as it polled the HD for new temps.

thats weird...

i had problems with sound stuttering when playing dvds.

i tried the version r1.19 of the realtek high def audio driver and that solved it...

i'm back on version 1.10 and so far no problems...

were do I download updated drivers
i went to www.realtek.com.tw and looked for the alc880 but version 1.19 had a bug whereby i couldn't choose the speakers type (it was stuck on headphone mode)

i reckon it might be that u might not have installed the intel inf drivers first before the other drivers...

do u have ultra dma 5 mode for your hard disk?

well that worked. I reinstalled the intell inf drivers from the cd and it now isn dma5 mode. Now I was looking on asus website and I dont see a section for the z71v. I only see it for the a version. Anyone have a direct link so that we can keep out driver updated

If you go to the support site, and type in the Z71v as the model name, you'll get a bunch of drivers. Its not on the main Asus site as a notebook.

I was about to tell you you're probably in PIO mode, looks like you found it yourself

If you still have audio stuttering problems, assuming you have WinAmp, you can go in and bump up the DirectSound buffer length to smooth things out. But you should not have to.
