Hi.
I am a long time Ubuntu advocate as you might already know. I used to use Ubuntu 5.04 x86 when i had my laptop before the much needed repairs. when i got it yesterday, today i installed ubuntu amd64 5.04. I got the wifi to work, now i am on video troubles. In the 32 bit version i got the drivers up and running in no time, the 64 bit is giving me issues.
I added to my sources.list, opened synaptic and apt-get xorg-drivers-fglrx and ati-fglrx-control. Then i opened xterm and
gedit poped up with xorg.conf. I navigated down to the "Device" section and changed the driver name from "ati" to "fglrx" then i pressed Alt + Cntrl + Backspace, and then it tries to reload x. i wait and I wait and i get a black screen (not text mode, just a black screen). So i had to restart in safemode and change it back to "ati" for time being.
anyone have any ideas what might cause the issue and how i can resolve it?
