Good video card in store for 15.4 inch inspirons anytime soon?

I've been waiting to buy a laptop (and probably will be waiting until mid july) but it needs to be 15.4 inches or smaller. Blah! I also need to get it with the inspiron $750 dollars off coupon because I will be buying a docking station and external monitor for it and my price range is somewhere between $1500-$1600. Any news as to when, or even if, Dell will be puting a good video card in their 15.4- 14.1 inch laptops? Can I expect to see a card like the x600, x700, 6800 ultra anytime soon?

would inspiron6000 with an x300 even be upgradeable to an x700, etc. (is there enough space inside)?

I don't think anyone knows.

If you are running a 1280 x 800 resolution the x300 will be perfectly fine for most games. I have the 9700 64mb Radeon and I have no troubples running all of the "new" games out. I doubt you will have any problems with the 46 or 128mb version of the x300.

My 15.4" emachine 6805 has the video chip (R9600) on the motherboard. It's not upgradeable. The only upgradeable machines seem to be the huge ones.

Why does everyone call what's in notebooks a Video Card? There's no AGP/PCIe card in there folks . It's all proprietary and it's usually onboard the mobo.

Another thing to realize is that it's HIGHLY unlikely to ever see upgrades for notes. Why would a manufacturer do it? It would be such a crazily niche product cuz I'd bet 1/100 or perhaps 1/1000 notebook owners ever seriously consider doing this sort of an upgrade (this isn't a trivial task). And, there are new models every 6 months. They aren't going to waste R&D money on outdated hardware. Not in our throwaway world.

Well, this varies by manufacturer.... but there are many Dell notebooks that have dedicated graphics cards using an AGP or PCI-E port. For example, of the current models that are sold on the US site, the i8600, i600m and D800 have AGP, the i6000d, i9300, iXPS2, D610, D810 and M70 with PCI-E cards.

Previous models that have been offered (such as the XPS Gen 1) have had graphics upgrades over their useful life. Indeed the i8600 has had several... in regards to its high-end card, it was first offered with a 64MB 4200go, then you could get a 128MB FX5650go, and finally a 128MB 9600PT. It also had several iterations of low-end cards for a budget setup.

It is the same case with upgrades with models over at Alienware, offering several different video iterations and upgrades at a cost. Didn't mean to shoot you down, but whilst what you said may have been true several years ago... the fat of the matter is for the past probably 3 years, the instance of upgradeable notebooks has steadily risen and Dell has been at the forefront.
