I downloaded and burned 2 iso, the r2 and r5. Both of these discs, I get a black screen after the boot prompt.

When there is boot, I press enter, some white word on black background appears, and the screen turns black!

Need help!

did you check the checksums on the disks?

Whats checksum?

md5sum yourdebiancd.iso will give you a long code
go back to where you downloaded the isos and you will see 2 m5sum files .

then compare the codes you get

it should be the same..

although checksums are usually not a problem, it is a worthy check. out of roughly 40 linux cds i ever d/l burned, i only had a corruption due to mismatched checksums once. another time i had an issue because nero cripled the iso while trying to burn :\

Try adding vga=791 at the boot prompt when you go to install. That worked with Kubuntu on my 3790. (I had the same problem initially)

I plugged my laptop to an external monitor. It worked. Everything installed, but I can't get my nic to work because the kernels are too old. When I made new kernels, and loaded, the only thing that work is the cursor flashing

Like this one " _ ". "_" flashes... no text...

Anybody know where to get the audio driver for the 3790?

Hmm... just curious, but why did you choose stock debian? There are so many jokes out there about how old it is I'd say, grab a ubuntu CD, and give that a try, because that is essentially a very new debian. Or if you don't like ubuntu, you can try morphix, which afaik is another debian-based distro. Both of these are newer, and hence detect hardware better, so I may be worth a try...
