How would you clean a notebook screen? This is my first notebook and I know you're not suppose to use windex or anything like that, are there any products out there especially for this?

Mine came with a sample pack of solution to clean it with. I believe it was from http://www.klearscreen.com/.

I don't know about those glossy screens but with the regular laptop screens I've always used Windex . It has NEVER damaged one. Just don't try to use Goof Off or Ooops hehehehe.

The glossy screens scare me here too. Those look incredibly easy to scratch! I wouldn't even touch paper towel to one of those. Soft cloth only, maybe a lens cleaning cloth.

OMG Windex IS NOT the thing to use. It contain chemicals that will damage your screen over time.

If you look at the ingredient in it, it is made up of isopropyl alcohol. You can get a bottle of it at your general supermarket/store.

Yea, but what concentration?

I use water and one of those streak free rags.

Yeah, that is the tough part. The .89 cents isopropyl alcohol bottle is stronger than that screen cleaning solution.
So unless you know what percent to dilute it, I wouldn't use it to clean the screen.

Safest bet is just to use water and be careful not to get the water dripping into the screen cracks...in other words, don't use to much water on the cleaning cloth, etc...

Griot's Window Cleaner is great for CRTs, LCDs, HDTVs, windows, been using it for about 8 years now, highly recommended, the most non-streaking thing I have ever used.

Tell that to my 1997 Dell Latitude LM. If my bro hadn't spilled water into it this last fall it'd still be here today. Cleaned that thing with Windex for years without issue. Though I guess I'd probably buy LCD cleaning solution today... That stuff sure is a rip for $10 is it's just based on Isopropyl though. Jeez.

I hear ya....$10 is expensive but for now I rather be sure than sorry. And on the plus side it does last 2-3 months. That is, I'm not cleaning it every day. Only when I see dust or a smudge.

A soft cloth lightly dampened with tap water (unless you have really hard water).

Acceptable cleaning agents:
• Water
• Vinegar (mixed with water)
• Isopropyl Alcohol
• Petroleum Benzene

What are some of the basic supplies needed to clean an LCD screen?
• Always use a soft cotton cloth. Some materials, such as paper towels or old rags could cause scratches and damage the LCD screen.

• Computer wipes. Only use these if they specifically state on the package they are designed for LCD laptop screens.

Proper Cleaning Techniques:
• Do not spray any liquids on the LCD screen directly. Always apply the solution to your cloth first, not directly to the parts you are cleaning.

• Stroke the cloth across the display in one direction, moving from the top of the display to the bottom.

But I still opt for spending the $$ for the premixed stuff........

Does anyone have any Belkien LCD cleaning solution with them? BEcause if it says what percent isopropyl alcohol then it would be very easy to dilute because the two types in the supermarket come in 70% and 91%, then it is simply a matter of ratio:ratio:

I just looked at the bottle and it doesn't state what percentage.
It just says: Contains: Isopropyl Alcohol
