I currently have the Inspiron 5000, which I bought it about 4 years ago and I was able to replace the default DVD player with the NEC dual layer DVD burner that I bought from newegg.com
Initially it was for the replacement for DVD/CDR for my XPS2 but since I returned the XPS2, I still have the NEC DVD burner.
I thought I tried to put it in the Inspiron 5000, and to my surprise, it works perfectly.
So that NEC DVD burner is actually about 1/3 the cost of the Inspiron 5000. I think that the Inspiron 5000 is worth about $300 now...and I bought it 4 years ago for $4,000!
