Is the increase of speed of the 7200 worth the money over the 5400? Mostly talking about boot up time. I dont understand benchmarks so could someone explain thebenchmark results to me?

Yes. Look at this way. The faster the HD is able to retrieve the data, the less time it needs to be active. Thus equal to lower heat and better battery life.

That's not necessarily true...the 7200 RPM drive should create equal or even more heat than the 5400 RPM

Hmm well, that would depends. If you retrieve your data quick enough you could stop spinning or idle earlier. No?

it all equals out to negligble heat and power consumption. A faster drive will make boot times shorter, and decrease the lag between starting up programs as well as loading game levels. It wont give you faster fps.

there is minimal differance between the 2 speeds on a drive of this volume. granted the 7200 will be slighly quicker at loading game levels and large files (like movies...if you were to do editing), it will slightly cripple your battery life (~5 minutes/charge)

it is definitely worth it:

although, it caused some overheating issues for me

What sort of overheating issues did it cause? I'm thinking of speccing a new laptop with a 7200 drive, but i'm concerned about the noise/heat issues that may occur.

If you feel like wasting even more money, you could wait for the 100gig 7200rpm drives to come out. They would set you back a bit, I imagine.
