Can I ask what you microphone solution is?
Do you have onboard microphone or an added one, or do you need one?
Also how important is a good picture to you or is a little square in the corner good enough (knowing if you make the webcam pic bigger the picture will look like gulf war live video with all the pixelated/blocky look).
Also what software solution do you have. Are you expecting an integrated software package.
I have to say the logitech high end stuff give the best pics, they even have models with built in microphones. I have to say for picture quality they are one of the best. There software is soso, I rank the basic cam (picture, movie, recording, file management) quite high, but they want you to pay their partner more money for a true internet webcam solution. I just use webcamxp but it would have been nice if they had a nice integrated software package. I bought them for picture quality and built in microphone over USB but for both to work properly you need USB 2 thought they say USB 1.1 works I do have freezes and jumping on my old N400c compaq.
Unfortunately the stupid good logitech cams run upwards of $100. I got lucky and got my notebook model webcam pro on ebay-a refurbished model with only 90 day warranty though.....for $40 shipped....but with a couple hours of over a week looking so I did end up spending that $100 if you include time.
What about the el cheapo clipcam. When I was looking for mine it was like $25 shipped. Not a real good picture quality with like a 340k imager, but with a microphone and even a utility light, some even had a night light. Do a search at ebay and you will see what I mean. Most seem to sell at GBP prices so I dontl know whats up with that. Also there software solution probably sucks and you will need to use something else. I would recommend webcamXP due to it being free.
