Artifacts and lock-ups

Does anyone know of a good GPU diagnostic utility? I have SiSoft Sandra but it doesn't look to me like it has any utilities for checking the GPU hardware.

I recently started having problems with artifacts and lock-ups with my 9860 and it's X800 card. I suspect it's heat related but from what I hear the X800 card runs reasonably cool.

Here's what I've tried so far:
Blasted the vents with canned air.
Took off rear acess plates and gave everything another good blast of air.
Installed latest drivers from Sager website (version 6.14.10.6534, 4/14/2005).
The fans all seem to be working fine.

It's on a flat desk and I have the rear sitting on two paperbacks (just under the rear feet, not blocking any vents) so that it's an additional 1.5 inches off the desk for additional ventilation. I use it in a room that's pretty cool, about 21c.

The computer runs fine except when I try to run any graphic-intensive programs, like games. It won't even run 3Dmark. It locks up after about 1100 frames of the first test. And when I say lock-up I mean complete system lock-up, the kind you have to cold boot out of.

I'm using XP Pro with all updates and DirectX 9c.

RMA may be my next step (it's only a month old) but I live overseas and that means three weeks shipping both ways. Throw in the repair time and I'd be without my lappy for aout two months. Needless to say I'm trying all I can to fix the problem without having to ship it back. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any suggestions?

Doesn't adding AS5 to the GPU void the warranty?
i don't know. I think there was a thread about that. But try searching the AS5 adding threads, they were useres asking the same thing and they had an answer but i don't remember what was it. So i think that you may need to apply it because i saw a review in www.driverheaven.net abou the same computer but not Sager ( rock & alienware ) and the computer which they were testing had the same problem and they added the AS5 and everything worked fine. So first search the threads about the garanty and Second : if it doesn't void it try to do it.

For me artifacts and lock-ups did mean RMA and replace graphics.
Btw, I've had my 6800 Ultra replaced 3 times in 2 months.
Shipping ran me over $250.

wow. paying for shipping bites my shiny metal ass!

first use the ATI tool to down clock the video card

if that fails its artic silver time.

if that fails then the video card may be going bad. email sager and see if a Clevo dealer near you will do the warranty repair or have Sager cross ship you a new video card.

good luck

look before you as5 around use ati tool the ltest one has temp reading if your absalutely sure its not heat. as5 will void the waranty if you arnt completely sure that it will solve the problem your better off just shipping it instead of haveing to fork out for another video card and shipping as well.
