Alienware doesn't build them...they strip them down, repaint them and reassemble them. If they cleaned up their act on quality and customer service I'd of bought from them last week. It's unacceptable that you receive a computer that doesn't work perfectly out of the box. Period. My company has bought junk HP's from Walmart, laptops from Dell, IBM, HP and Compaq and have never had even the cheapest models fail out of the box or for over 2 years! Alienware is getting a bad rap and losing customers because of it...they are having serious growing pains and need to shape up or they'll be out in a few years...IMHO. Sad.
I think you need to learn not to place any weight on "review" forums like resellerratings or especially CNet. Neither has any mechanism for weeding out troll reviews.
Before I went with the Sentia, I actually read EVERY resellerratings entry for AW. Even before doing follow up research I was able to determine that probably half of the negative ones are fiction. Follow up research basically convinced me that internet based product review sites like reseller are completely worthless.
So, I went with the Sentia. It has been a dream since I got it. Rugged, fast as a thief and very portable. Also, my AW customer experience was first class. Based on these I convinced a friend of mine to go with an Area 51 3500 when he needed to replace his desktop. He and his family have been marveling over it since they got it. It too runs like a trooper and has been great.
