Sager Future

Thread Starter
I have been looking at this forum for a while now and have realized that my next laptop for college will most def be a Sager, as they have the best options for their laptops for the best prices. I wont be starting school till the end of August and going to try my best to wait till August to order my Sager Laptop. I'm just curious if anyone knows what I can expect if I wait till August VS. just buying now, or if it is worth the wait. What new processors or video cards and what not may be out? Maybe a thinner, smaller, and lighter laptop from Sager? I'm going into computer engineering and I occasionally do game, so getting the top of the line options is a priority of mine. Thanks.

I would go ahead and get the 9880, I don't think there will be much change

The 9880 is too big for me, i was thinking more 3880 or 4880. Leaning more towards the 3880 since the vid card has good overclocked results.

Waitingis all ways the right option when buying a computer. You will all ways get more for less if you wait. I would suggest hanging tight untill the middle/end of July. That would give you enough time to order and recive your system as well as a bit of cushion time incase an issue comes up. Chances are you won't have a problem but, it is best to be safe then sorry. I use to sell computers a long time ago (when a 128MB RAM stick cost $12,000US) and I had someone buy a system and need to use it that night to write a term paper that was due the next day. It turned on and then fried itself. Since it turned on it was an RMA needed to be sent out to be fixed. If it had never turned on it would have been a DOA and would have been replaced on the spot. Nothing like procrastination!!

Good luck.

C'mon, take a close look at the side profile of the 3880. It doesn't look bad at all. People are just freaking out about it, but i don't think it's big deal.

it's not that bad

oi, I remember when the 3790 got that 12cell and everyone was apeshit in love with it. Everyone marveled at the improved cooling, extended run time between charges etc etc etc blah blah blah, and now its "ugly." Blame Mac for make ascetics such a big damn deal.

Here's my outlook on the whole thing. Your in college, hopefully for something you can build a career out of. Get what you need to get the job done today. Get what looks pretty sitting on your Ethan Allen designer living room ensemble when you have a career, and the money, to worry about it.

BTW, I've never seen a game (or any other software) run faster on a machine because it looked better.

You may want to wait as long as possible.

Also their is a shifting away from the P4 for desktop replacements to the PM processor. This trend is moving into the desktop area also. This trend will become even stronger when the next Pm processor is released.

at virginia tech we arent allowed to get AMD as engineering students
i really dont think its that ugly, but i mean im sure waiting will obviously be the best option for me. its just hard to wait...
hopefully some interesting improvements may come along in the next couple of months. even if it is a tiny improvement it may be worth the wait.

I agree with the first part of your post. However, the 3880 seems to have half the battery life of the 3790. Maybe it's the new GPU.. I don't know. So they need the big battery which doesn't look so bad anyway.

As for your second argument... it's, well.. arguable :-)
These guys are going to college, so that means they are right into the period of life when "looking good" is at its highetst. Not in 5 or 6 years when they'll have enough money!

But let's look at it from this point: If you want to look cool because of your laptop then you're a GEEK which means you won't get the chicks anyway! And the tumor battery may actually impress the other geek males in a good way, and maybe some cute geeky girl too. So I say, get the tumor and brag about it :-)

i agree yet disagree, i know alot of non geeky and phenomenal females that get pink ipods and imacs and ibooks just for the look factor, esp since they have no idea whats inside the computer. i guess it may be different for guys tho. i hate to be really picky, but i prob wouldnt mind the tumor if it was centered on the laptop. but it looks like its more towards the left (or right, im too lazy to look up the pics), which may create some balance issues.
