Dell 700m HD Question

I reformatted my 700m with XP home edition. Since then I've noticed that the HD LED lights up quite often, just about once every second. Why is the computer accessing the HD so often? Even happens when the computer is idle. I've never noticed this with my desktop or on the 700m before I formatted it.

768MB ram
60G HD
24x cd RW/DVD
8 cell bat

Don't know why it does it but my 600m does the same thing.
