I like to see this on the new 700m

yeah that would be cool but I just hope the 700m replacement doesn't come out anytime soon considering I just bought my 700m yesterday

The 700m has that, just not a label on the touchpad to show it. I actually prefer not to have it labelled, as what purpose does that serve anyway?? You can config the pad to respond in the same way on the side and bottom. I do on my 8600 and it works great, just the same, without being labelled.

its quite sad that, that's the only feature you would want on a new 700m.. and it already has it on there?? do you even own a 700m?? cause there are a lot of other things that could be improved.

This is hilarious -- IT ALREADY HAS THIS FEATURE!

It's just without the ugly printing. It looks way better without it!

It's worth the effort to study the manual on the Synaptics pad on the 700m. It's the most adjustable I've ever used, you can customize it to fit whatever you've been used to.

All four corners can be made hotspots to do the usual pointing device functions and you can even put text in them to elininate typing those pesky passwords.

forget about it

Richard, is this easy to set up after formatting a 700m, or do you have to track down obscure drivers?
Just take a permanent marker and draw the track markers on your touchpad. the 700m has the feature.

bcherry, just go to the dell updates page for 700m and you can download the synaptics driver

The options are in control panel/mouse/device settings/settings. Read them over, it shows you how to use each feature. It took me a while, there's so much you can do but it's well worth it!

I don't actually have my 700m quite yet, but I was curious if I would have to track down the drivers to make it work after a format, because I'm trying to get that all in line before it shows up. Thanks for the advice, I am probably going to spend way too much time playing with this

The drivers are very easy to find on Dell's site.

The Synaptics pad on the 700m is one of the best things I like about the 700m. I have my top left corner configured for PageBack; top right for PageForward; bottom left for PageUp; bottom right for PageDn. And of course, the right and bottom edges for scroll. Unlike many other pads, this one is also adjustable for pressure sensitivity (to adjust scroll speed). Best pad around if you are a web browsing junkie!

i just use my microsoft wireless mouse, i can never get used to the touchpad..it pains me to use it

I cannot over emphasize getting a Staedtler superfine permanent pen and drawing those little scroll functions and labels so you don't get confused. god forbid, you scroll up when you wanted to scroll down

Wow! I ordered my 700m with the apparently plain touchpad as something I thought wouldnt be all that nice. I was disappointed it didnt appear to have any scrolling areas. But now I'm hearing a lot of great stuff that's got me pretty excited!
