5/11/05 Orders - What is your production status w/80/100Gb 7200 Drives - Page 3

I ordered the 100GB 7200RPM

Yeah, I ordered the new 100GB 7200RPM on Wednesday with the 35% off coupon, and it is supposed to come today (meaning Tuesday - according to UPS). What is really REALLY weird and ironic, is I emailed Dell a couple days before the 35% coupon, asking if they were expecting to get the new 7200RPM drives in, were going to have a 35% off coupon soon, and if they were upgrading their screens soon, and I was deciding between the PowerBook 17" and an iXPS Gen 2, and I would get the iXPS in a heartbeat if they had the things I asked about, and if not I would get the PowerBook. Imagine my surprise when they offered the first two like the day or two after I sent it! So, needless to say, I ordered the iXPS Gen 2!!! LOL! Coincidence? I have no idea, but weird nonetheless.

Anyways, so I will let everyone know when I get it if it has the right drive in it. I sure hope so, I have been so giddy!!! -JB

I'll be honest, I'm a little shy about knowing how to go about asking Dell for free stuff. I'm all for it, though.

What did you guys say exactly to get your shipping upgrade?

Unless you have a legitamate beef with Dell, dont ruin it for everybody else and dont ask for free shit when you dont deserve it. if you ordered the new 7200rpm drive, IT TOLD YOU there'd be a delay. Who cares if its in boxing or whatnot, unless its past the day they estimated the shipping at, lay off. Stuff like this is what makes companies change their policy so that even customers who DO have issues dont get what they deserve, all because some jackasses on a webboard decided to get together and abuse the system.

The same thing happened with Tivo a few months ago.

I think the people here are just asking why its being in Production so long. Not asking for anything, and dell customer care does it on their own.

I know I didnt ask for anything when I emailed them, just asked a few questions.

I guaruntee you that most people on here know that sometimes the steps take dell a long time, just like it can take days for "boxing", it can take days for "production". We all know that, since this is a dell subforum. These people are asking a question they already know the answer to specifically to see if they can get something free, and that IMO is wrong and will spoil things for others.

If somebody had legitamate and honest question, thats fine, but we know thats not the case for everybody on this thread. Obviously part of the blame is on dell for being so generous and nieve when simple questions are being asked, but I'd hope people on here could refrain from deliberate abuse.

And you people wonder why they're outsourcing.

Nice insight.

Well for the 4 hours I spent on the phone with them last Thursday to try and straighten out my HD swap. Me asking them a few questions in a email wont hurt them, and if they decide to give me Next day shipping. So be it. That will make up for the 4 hours I wasted on the phone with them.

I just tried to check my status and it came up as "Not Available." This either means they are updating or they cancelled it. RRRG. Something's fishy.

EDIT: It's back, with no progress. Ah well...

Great post. Reps for you! I don't get why people insist on emailing Dell with questions about the progree of their order when one can easily get that information online. Yes, its stuck in production for a few days...but let me ask you this.... is it past Dell's original ship date? The answer is probably a no, so if you weren't prepared to wait this long, why did you order from Dell?

Cry me a river. I'm enjoying me free nextday.

I figure, my old desktop crashed after ONE WEEK, yay for windows ME.

I never asked for anything from them, but they gave it to me of their own free will. If you think this is why they're outsourcing then you're pretty damned naive.

I don't care about outsourcing either, if it means cheaper prices for us the consumer, then I'll take it. I'm also not a xenophobe who doesn't give a crap about anyone but americans. I'm a citizen of the world, and I care about people everywhere getting jobs that can afford them a home not made out of clay and mud with no running water and medication. So please, cut the self-righteous bullsh*t and go preach to someone else that actually cares.

Just went through kitting, now in Build stage.

I ordered my 9300 last Wednesday. It shipped Monday 5/16 and will be here (WI) from TN in 2 days by ground shipping. At least that's what UPS has scheduled in tracking.

That's pretty damn good for a custom built machine I think. As long as it all works I'm very happy.

Same here. Still stuck "InProduction". Hasnt hit Kitting yet. We will see what tomorrow holds.

My Expansion dock with Stand shipped today though. It paid off emailing them yesterday, got Nextday shipping on the system and the stand. Plus they set it to where the stand shipped right away, instead of waiting for the system to get done.

Mine is in "boxing" now.

It was "inproduction" from the 13th until this morning, then it went from inproduction, through kitting and now into boxing phase just today.

So once it finally gets moving, its moves pretty fast.

Maybe tomorrow for mine.

Mine arrived in Portland around 5:00 today, so I should receive it tommorow. I went with the standard 3-5 day delivery, but it seems to have traveled faster than that. So far Dell has received five stars in my book. We will see what the finished product has in store tommorow.
