Touchpad stopped working

There is similar info in a previous thread here. But it didn't solve my problem.

Basically, my battery ran out (I was draining for a full recharge), and for some reason it sort of freaked out right when forcing the stand-by mode, and when I plugged in and turned it back on, my touchpad wouldn't work. I've looked in my device manager, and there's nothing there that says touchpad.

I've plugged a mouse in and that works fine. The Touchpad shows up in the system tray icon and I can disable and enable it there, but it always acts as if it's disabled (ie: when I touch it, nothing happens).

I've charged it back up, and then uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for it. Still no success.

I've gone and looked in System / Device Manager / Mice and other pointing devices and only my mouse shows up there. If I unplug it, then the option for "Mice and other pointing devices" disappears altogether.

Would replacing my Registry with a backup help with this problem? The only other thing I can think of is removing the battery and the putting it back in to see if that helps. Doesn't look promising.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I would use your recovery disc in Windows and go to reinstall factory drivers and programs. Then select the touchpad .exe and reinstall it then reboot.

Fixed

Thanks for the help guys. All I actually needed to do was shut down fully. For some reason, rebooting wasn't doing the trick. Once I reinstalled the drivers and shut down (since I was done with trying things for the night), the next day, when I booted up, it worked just like new.

Sounds good. Will I be able to control the disk from Toshiba, so it won't automatically try to complete a full install? I need touchpad.exe. Thanks.
