i just bought a new alienware and first off this thing is awesome. i want to replace the current cd burner drive with a new dvd burner. what can anyone recommend? i mean brands, specifics anything. also, what other kind of upgrades can i get. i play doom 3, unreal tournament, halo, counterstrike. this is my first actual gaming computer. do i need more memory? i read a thread that said the laptop could have 2 hard drives. how and where does the other one go. any help would be awesome. alot of people will say go to the store and buy one, but i am in the military and am in baghdad so that is kinda hard

well you are going to be looking for a laptop hard drive, which is is going to be slim drive. Plus if you want a dvd-rw d/l drive it will also have to be slim....just to be safe is it a laptop or desktop you are talking about.

i believe that the NEC 6500A drive is compatable with the 5500 series, dont take my word as absolute, but i think it can be done, and someone here has tried it if im remembering correctly... best of luck on your system. enjoy it and i hope you find the right upgrade for yourself.

Not much more you can upgrade on that, it's already pretty maxed out. You could put in a 5700 or 9700 GPU, but (1) you can't buy them anymore, and (2) nobody is likely gonna sell you theirs.
