Here's the quote from today:

266872U
IBM ThinkPad T43 2668 - Pentium M 760 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT (1400 x 1050)
Dimensions (WxDxH) 13 in x 10.6 in x 1.4 in
System Type Notebook
Stereo speakers, wireless LAN antenna, fingerprint reader, ThinkLight, Bluetooth antenna
RAM 512 MB (installed) / 2 GB (max) - DDR II SDRAM - PC2-4200 - 533 MHz Hard Drive 80 GB - 5400 rpm
DVD-Writer - plug-in module
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 - 64 MB
802.11g (asked for 2915, but this quote doesnt state that)
Keyboard, TrackPoint, UltraNav
Power AC 110/230 V ( 50/60 Hz )
Battery Lithium ion
Run Time (Up To) 3.9 hour(s)
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Manufacturer Warranty 3 years warranty

$1,989.00

Overall, I am very impressed with this price for a brand new thinkpad. It's approximately what I paid for my CL56 with a four year warranty in January.

Im a little concerned about the dimensions.. I thought it was only 12.2" in x 10" x 1.1-1.3" - Might be that they got it wrong? I will check back with them tomorrow.

Is it possible to make up for the 64mb graphics chip with an overload of RAM? say to 1.5 gig? Im not big on the top games... big 2d player and after owning this CL56 which never played FarCry appropriately I firmly believe laptops are limited in their desktop counterparts when it comes to high performance games, especially on pentium-m's.

I plan on purchasing a 7200 RPM 60 gig from someplace cheap like newegg and using the 80 as a backup in an enclosure... I need faster startup times.

Battery is a little low, so maybe go for the high performance T40 battery? Do I have this correct?

To compensate for my uprgrading, Ill have to wait a few months to see what happens with the prices, like most of you have already stated... I plan to purchase definately by the mid to end July.

Now I gotta see what my current setup will go for and do some math.

Eastie, you rock! and a thank you to everyone. Please inform of the new offers...

Cheers

seriouslly dude that quote price is good now, just dont wait to long because for MA that is a good deal (MA tents to charge more at anything for educational purposes, like pc purchases)... what you plan is cool! you shouldnt worry for the dimensions of the lappy, trust me it is so thin as the s series sony and very small though is 14'1 and also very lightweight for such a monster, i dont know what you mean by the t40 battery, would you explain that..... you're good to go, dont worry about the computer you will get the best bang for the buck man!

you happy? then me happy too...

good luck

ps:width 1.0 - 1.2

Any thoughts... can always stop the order... I know I want it, but Im always apprehensive right around the time of purchase....

edit: this means I get two batteries? one that simply last longer ? - not some additional attachment - but a full battery... right?
Sweet glad you ordered it. My x40 kept have its shipdate pushed back from what it said on the website, but it ended up shipping two days early from the first date that got so I was really happy about that. I can probably tell you now that once you get it, if anything you wouldn't be unhappy with IBM's quality. If any reason you'd be sending it back it would be for another thinkpad

Congrats.

Scorp, AFAIK the T40 battery is simply the higher capacity 9-cell.

Ok, Im starting to get annoyed.. highly annoyed. I spoke with a rep on last Thursday the 19th and he in return offered a quote. I took a day with the quote and so on Fridady the 20th I wanted to place the order. I called his office and and placed the order around 1pm. There was a minor discrepancy with the quote, so I wanted to call back and confirm something; also at 1pm he said the transaction would take 5 minutes - an hour had gone by and I called his office and got the standard message that he's out and they'll call back within four business hours. Their day ends at 8pm and I called at 2pm. After leaving the message at 2pm I never called back, figuring they would be professional and return my call within the '4 business hours' protocol. It was was then 8:30 and I realized I got no call or email. I spent the weekend wondering if something was wrong with the order or quote because I also received no transaction confirmation or communication.

Now it became Monday, yesterday and I finally called the office at 1 pm and luckily he picked up. I asked what was wrong and he said the order I originally wanted had to be tweaked and he simply wanted to make sure of it before going through with it... yea? Why didn't ya call me on Friday.. or today?? I said go! let's go with it! He says, ok, then he'll put the card through and I'll receieve a confirmation in the email in 5 minutes. Nothing. I wait 2 hours. At 3 pm I call back to make sure everything is ok, I get the same freaking out of office message of 'within 4 hours' and once again monday's end time is 8pm. I called at 6:30 last night once every half hour for a total of 3 calls til 8pm. Nada.

Today, Tuesday, I call today at this time, 10 of 4. I leave a message stating the communications. I still have NO confirmatiom, email or messages. WTFF Is going on!??

Might want to call a different rep and place your order with him. Tell this guy to basically shove it cause thats bullcrap. never beg for people to take your money from you or to do business with you. I had to leave a message for my guy twice and I always got a call back within about 30mins or less. As all places there are some bad apples in the bunch. First have to new guy check to make sure that other guy didn't already place your order and make a mistake typing in your e-mail. That can sometimes happen.

If not place your order with someone else and tell them to go over to that guys office and smack him

Agreed LG..

I talked to him at the end of the day yesterday and he apologized for the technicalities. He still never returned my call - I had called in. They were having problems with the web at their offices and have not been able to place the order(?). After apologizing profusely and acknowledging my wonderful patience he said he's sent the ticket to the IT guys and is waiting for their response, and to boot he'll speed the shipping as a result of my patience.

For real? Or should I go around him? I mean, at least call me or email me with your intentions and/or the result of the difficulties and I could understand. But no communication? Wtf. When he said speed shipping, I kinda calmed down and dunno.. should I wait it out? Ill call in for an update today, cuz we know he won't call me.
Well I'm not sure how your order was placed. I did mine via the quote they sent me, so it was all electronic as far as placing the order. But if he has to manually submit it he might be telling the truth, hard to say. As far as speeding up the shipping not sure how much faster he can make it cause I had just regular ground and when I got my shipped e-mail it was here in two days from china! If you don't have some kinda of confirmation e-mail by mid-day today I'd be a bit pissed and you could either tell him bye bye at that point or tell him to send you a quote so you can order that way.

The quote I got came from someone different then my rep, probably someone that does pricing but rep was my contact guy.

Someone on another forum said the regular shipping is two days from China also. Update for today, after calling in, is that he finally stated it was backordered and the whole system has glitches due to the takeover by Lenovo. Apologizing, he said that no matter how long it takes to actually put the quote into an order I'lll still receive my product on the already quoted ship date - June 6th. Is he serious? So he could place the order next week sometime and it would still ship on the 6th? He said he was planning on calling me first thing tomorrow morning because that's when they expect it to go through. If it's true the ship date won't be affected by the order date then I should relax, right?

Son of a bitch!

Two minutes after I hang up with him, post the above... I check my email and the order is NOW PLACED!! I have a feeling he could've put it through earlier and just now decided to.. for whatever reason. It's now an order!

Bout time Foo!!!

See that feels much better than waiting..

Thanks you guys, you too LordGop

T43 on its way

edit: edit: The model number he gave relative to the quote has a different setup than I wanted when looked up here: Support site Which should I go by? The listing in the site - or the quote? They are completely different.. just for starters, site list's the 15" when I wanted the 14".....
If you ordered directly from the quote then go with that. Anything ****ing up and blam you got it in writing
