shopping for g wireless card

Well I have my 5680 up and running, and it's everything you guys said it would be (i.e. fast and heavy) but sadly, I ordered it just before they started offering the g cards. I wanted one, so I left the wireless option off so I could install my own later.

Question! Can anyone recommend a good internal G card? I was looking at this one:

but am just not sure. I'm also thinking of the dell truemobile 2300 broadband router. Any experiences or recommendations would be appreciated

anyways, i looked on ebay for you and i found some mini-pci no name ones and some IBM. theyr'e about 40-70 bucks.

Internal has better range - bigger antenna - size counts!

I'm going with the Linksys WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adapter. I've heard good things about it. Amazon.com has it for 69.99 and a $10.00 mail in rebate for a total of $59.99 free shipping. also Linksys has excellent tech support

Yeah, I'm seeing mixed reviews on this card. I swear I saw tons of good reviews raving about it, but Divine_Madcat's experience got me thinking that maybe it just doesn't work with the 5680. Now that there are some 5680 owners like you that have it working perfectly, I'm hoping it'll work out for me. I have the TM1300 and the 5680 on the way. I'll let you guys know my experience.

BTW, can you give me a detailed account of how you installed? Exactly which antenna went into which antenna jack, which drivers did you use and where you got them, and if you did a firmware flash? Can you confirm that the chip on the mini-PCI card does say Broadcom BCM4306?

I'm using the Dell Truemoblie 1500 card in my wife's Dell Lattitude and the Sager supplied WIFI card in my 4760. I was also using the Lynksys wireless card in both notebooks unit I got the individual wireless cards.

My biggest problem with the Lynksys wireless card was the reception. It just kept loosing signal or not maintaining a strong signal.

The Dell card gave me some setup problems, but once I got past them it has worked well

There was no other chioce for my 4760 but the card that Sager supplies. Again some set up problems, but it is so much better than the Linksys wireless card.

The internal antenna on the Sager's give the internal card the edge over any that have to go into the PCMCIA slot.

Just enable WEP encryption to keep XP happy and disconnect the wireless card from the ethernet bridge in XP and all should be fine.

Dell's on line store is selling the Truemobile 1300 cards for under 50 bucks so I was told.

does the 802.11g wireless card sager offers for the 5680 support 128-bit WEP ? i wanted to go with the D-LInk dwl-g650 wireless card but seeing how you guys all mention the mini-pci is a lot better for reception.

I'm not so concerned about WEP - I want an internal card that supports WPA - it's more secure and since the router I'm getting supports it I would like to be able to take advantage...

I've seen posts about disconnecting it from the ethernet bridge in XP. How exactly do you go about doing that?

You're right about the Dell price, I got mine for $44.10 shipped.
