It will need a heavier heatsink, the one im goign to use will be an actual heatsink, not a crushed up coke can screwed to the GPU. So, it will add soem weight. Also with all the pin mods on teh card I will have to do your average user would not be able to do it them selfs.

So why am i doing it? Because it can be done

there is a small dark spot on bottom right of the screen.. thats evident in pretty much all the z71v reviews...

my sparkles are pretty evident.. i think all the units are the same.. just that some people don't notice it as much as others.. like as i'm typing this reply.. i can see it on the white/gray

and what were you talking about regarding the refresh rates?

I don't remember referring to refresh rates..although i did add a profile for 85 refresh....but it doesnt seem to improve anything.

1cent at 280/570 on 3dmark 03 after being run a couple of times do you notice any artifacts (screen tears) on the ragtroll test near the end? Because i notice two but they only do it there and always at the same time. 3dmark score at that clock was 5274.

My Z71v plays HL2 and Doom3 better than my Athlon XP desktop did. Oh, and also in widescreen at 1680.

So for games, I'm not disappointed at all... and I've not even touched any of the drivers (having learned the hard way in the past...)

It's a good laptop. There's a lot of nonsense and assumption about the "sparkles". Nothing wrong with my screen. It's not as cool as a Sony X-BRITE but I can't find anything wrong with it save for a bit of bleed.

Have found nothing that affects my gaming experience yet

wut does it run at stock. you know in driver setting's overclocking place
it has 2d : 100/400
3d: 250/400
then you click restore default.. the 3d will turn to 250/500

i'm guessing its 250/500 for max performance at default and 100/400 for battery optimized?
i haven't tried benchmarking it while overclockeed.. cuz i heard of fried GPU many times.. and i saw some ppl saying the card was reading over 100 degrees, but the card might not have a temp reader.. it was a software displaying the "AUX" was at ~105 degrees

105f is very cool...unless thats 100c which is still hot...but should do ok.

For games it seems tor un them great...will somewhat

UT04 runs all the way up 80-150fps but for some reason with both an extenal and internal keybaord the forward key stops responding a few times every few minutes stoping the player from moving, this is not game lag because everythign else works with out hesitation (mouse, firing, other players on screen)

in WoW, FPS is about 25-30 on high res low detail, which is lower than i expected but not bad. (game is a low fps game on any computer) but in that game the screen flickers out for a split second every few minutes quite badly, and i have the same problem with the forward key locking up on external and internal keyboards.

oh and BTW guys IF you decide to overclock it is a must to work the hell out of it with benchmarks. It is much worse on the card to overclock and continue gaming at unsafe speeds then to benchmark it, see the problem and correct it before you cause damage.

GamingTechy,
You mentioned a problem with the direction controls locking up in UT2004 while everything else on screen continues. I used to have this problem, and found an answer on the official UT forums. It involves changing some of the sound options in-game (it's actually a pretty easy fix). I believe that you have to select 'Use Hardware Sound' (or something like that) from the sound menu, but it might be one of the other options. Definitely a sound issue though, and easily fixed.

Yeh, i thought it was that to but the sound fix didnt fix it, and it does it in other games as well.

No, its a directx 8 benchmark so I never really thought of it.
yeah see i am going to get the 71V though i would like to see that comparison towards the X600.
I got more or less 13000 on 3DMark01 with mine. click on my signature for the full review.

it blows the x600 a way...the X700 is the card from ATi to take on the 6600.
around 13000 is not a huge jump from my 9700 64mb :s anyone get anything higher? i expected around 17000+ most 8 pixel pipelines card have scores in that area.

you really cant compare on a directx 8 benchmark....you can only go so fast. Remember the higher you go the harder it is to get a higher score.
