Ferrari 4000 is here - Page 2

thanks for the pictures wiz33!

another question... is the "carbon fiber" actual carbon fiber? Or is it just a normal lid with that tape on carbon fiber pattern?

I didn't look that close but I was told that it's a real Carbon Fiber as it's cost them more to have it vs a 8100 lid.
when is it actually going to be released?
wiz33, do you have any info on release?

shrugs... the date that i had heard was a may 24th launch. channel shipments probably end of june/early july? I think Acer wants to hold out for a better showing by Ferrari first. Sort of a double whammy and to help promote the image.

I'll try to find some info on release date. All I know is that they are getting over 10 units ready to ship out for review this week.

The unit is getting the following score wit hteh 1.6G CPU

3DMark03 6503
3DMark05 2471

This looks great as they are already faster than my 8104 (3DMark05 2285). So the production unit should be just a bit faster still.

Although they have not run any battery benchmark but since it uses the same battery as the 8100series, they do expect endurance to be less than that of the 8100

A 3DMark03 score of 6503 is more than twice as fast as the Ferrari 3200/3400. Not sure how much faster it will be with the 1.8/2.0GHz it will shipp with, but if these numbers are with the 1.6GHz it looks very promising!

That is great news for this laptop b/c the 8104 with a 2GHz proc, x700, and 1GB of RAM is slower than that (in these two benchmarks), at least in this review.

comon ferrari 4000! =) again. thanks for the pics wiz33!

it would be great if the f4000 becomes acer's top of the line in performance.

hopefully ferrari wins monaco this weekend and acer pushes up the release schedule. hahaha *fingers crossed*
post #29 of 80
Given that there are quite a few possibilities for upgrading (processor, ram, hd) if it does have a 1.6/1.8GHz proc, etc. how likely is it that a place like pctorque.com would allow customizations and do the upgrades?

The user manual that was posted here, showed a ML-37 (2.0ghz) Turion

Is the keyboard comfortable to type on?
I was concerned about the curved keyboard when I got my 8104, but I have grown to really like it. I think I prefer it now over more standard keyboards.

Next question, is the Ferrari 4K shipping with windows xp 64bit and a full suite of 64-bit drivers or is it left up to the end user to get the upgrade from MS and find the drivers on his own?
dcranford: I must have missed that, all I saw was that it said it would have a turion. What page in the manual said it had an ml-37? I was basing my post of of the post by Wiz33 a couple of posts earlier.

The test units have regular XP Pro. They were upgrading some to XP 64 for benchmarks but I don't know what the production unit will have.

Wiz, did you get an impression of noise or heat ?
I'm impressed with a 3DMark 05 of 2471 marks. I've been looking into the ASUS Z71V and the main difference between these two notebooks is the processor (Pentium vs. AMD). Looking at the ASUS benchmarks, the stocks are normally around 1750/1800, at 1.8ghz. (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2346) If this machine was tested at 1.6ghz and got these marks, wow! Wanna overclock this mother...

What was the battery life on the 8104, 3.5 hours running programs like Word? I guess I can settle for a 3 hour battery life if the Ferrari uses more...

If he was in a crowded restaurant, most likely not.. Man I want some Vietnamese Noodles.. But I'm interested in the same question.

Sorry guys, it was quite noisy in the restaurant so I can't tell. My 8104 gets about 3 hours if I'm browsing the web actively on wifi so it may be a bit more with wifi off. I wasn't that impress with the Z71V w/X600. If they put a X700 in there than it might be interesting.

with brightness at 33% and wifi on, and everything else on but bluetooth , i get 3:54minues on my acer 8104 with surfing the web..... and doing some work on photoshop
