2 external montiors?

I'm just looking to buy a 9300 but wanted to know if any XPS2/9300 user tried to hook up 2 external monitors, 1 to the VGA and the other to the DVI port?

I'm pretty certain you couldn't get 3 independant displays but I'd really like to run my 2 desktop LCDs when at my desk and wondered if anyone had ever tried this.

Thanks

FYI, the manual specifically states not to do this...

Of course that doesn't mean nobody will try it. But I'd hate to break something trying.

Two external monitors works fine. What manual tells you not to do this? Reference please.

I'm an idiot, ignore what I said...I can't find it anywhere now.

So are you saying that with the 9300 you can have 3 displays: 2 external monitors and the laptop LCD itself? Nice...

No, I'm pretty sure only two can be active at a time: LCD + VGA, LCD + DVI, or VGA + DVI.

Probably the same with the XPS2, nothing like playing HL2 and Halo at the same time!!!

With the Dell 9300 you can only get 1 external display to work unless you use the VTBook. The VTBook allows you to have an additional 1 or 2 more external displays. It is not suitable for gaming. It used only for displaying financial information. See http://www.tradersworld.com/computers/VTBook.htm

above is incorrect. Dellbert is right.

Thanks for the info, I'll get Dell to confirm it but I was pretty certain it would be 2 of any monitors (inc TV BTW). The only 3 monitor capable consumer card I'll heard of is the Matrox Parhelia(?). Basically it doesn't have enouch Digital to Analogue converters.

Dell could have been cheap though and put a DVI-D port on the back that only uses the digital component of DVI and put the analogue component in the VGA connector thus only enabling clone mode, if that.
