Recovering VAIO Control Center ?

Does anyone know how to recover the VAIO Control Center that is located in the control panel? it is the utility that shows you system info and allows you to customize the s buttons and turn on/off the VAIO splash screen on bootup. I just did a reformat and installed all of the drivers/utils from sony's support site, and it still doesn't appear in my control panel.

EDIT: I have the Sony s360.

Thanks

BUMP

i have exactly the same problem, so i just deleted my old post... im hitching onto yours

UPDATE: download and install this

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...d=1831&os_id=7

its the march 10 update for control center...it made the app appear in my control panel. however, i still cant configure the S buttons or use the function keys to change volume or screen brightness....which seriously pisses me off, because the battery life with full xbrite on is a joke....maybe an hour

I Think I Got It

OK.

after youve installed all the drivers from sony,

dl and install this:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...d=1831&os_id=7

then this:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...d=1775&os_id=7

then this:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...d=1646&os_id=7

then finally this:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...d=1800&os_id=7

youve probably already installed the last three.....do it again. it works. t makes abosolutely no sense, but it works.
the only thing thats missing now is that utility that automatically adjusts the screen brightness when it goes on/off ac power.... i can live with that until i go to best buy and "borrow" a recovery disk. just remember to always turn the screen down when it goess on battery, or the battery life goes from my norm(3 hours and change) to about an hour... the xbrite is brighter than my CRT after all...

good luck

These don't work for me because I have the s360.

right...sorry...find the appropriate drivers for your model on that site. go to sony.com, under electronics in the top menu select notebooks, then support and drivers...after everything is installed, install the utilities update, then the shared library, the notebook control, and then the notebook utilities again

Still didn't work. Wonder if I'll have to reformat again to start the process over??
i dunno... sorry dude...reformatting a vaio is a bitch....the only solution that anyone has found so far on these forums is to go to either buy the 20$ driver CD (which i absolutely refuse to do on principal) or go to best buy with a DVDR and use their display model to burn one.

I was able to make the recovery cd. Why would I have to buy it from Sony or go to BB? Is it different somehow?

Thanks

if you made the recovery CD why were you getting the drivers from sony's support site as per your original post? just pop in the recovery CD(s)

I think he wanted to install a proper windows XP Pro from scratch with all the function enabled. This is what I want to do to (and no, I haven't order my Vaio yet, just curious if I have to live with the bundle crap from sony) Am I right, gooter?

Yeah, you're right. I made the recovery CD's then installed my own copy of WinXP Prof (my s360 came with XP Home). I didn't want all the extras Sony installs on the machine. I've gotten everything to work including the S buttons but have not been able to get the Control Ctr to load in the Control Panel. It's not that big of a deal I guess since I can access the bios to change the boot splash screen/sound and I was able to install the VAIO battery mgt program. Just doesn't feel complete until I get it to appear in the Control Panel.

gooter: To get the Vaio Control Center to show in Windows XP Control Panel you need to have file called VCCenter.cpl in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 folder.
Windows loads all the .cpl files from the folder at least on Windows start..not sure does it work just by closing and opening the control panel.

Hope this helps.

Not sure if that would work for a netbook. Can you specify exactly your model and issue?

first sorry for the English, is a translation of google. My netbook is an VNG Vaio P610,WXP OS. Can not install the Vaio contrtol center or is installed, it not works .-- Thanks

That model comes stock with Vista - I doubt that it would work under XP. You might want to try to search for a similar model that supports XP and use the Sony utilities for it.

pardon my vaio comes from factory with WXP, Microsoft has stuck to the stikers

My bad then - the recommendation stays with searching other similar Sony model with XP and use their files. Strange that you cannot find the repository for your model from Sony Support though. Is there another reference model underneath the notebook?

cheers ...
