HT hidden CPU usage (Cooling issue) - Page 2

Well, while I was away from the net and experiencing my problems, I took a couple of screenshots:

(process graph)

(process list)

Doesn't make sense... I just checked my TaskMan and I am back at regular, sub-2% while idling, CPU usage.

I'll keep an eye on things; I'll hold off on the reinstall. Not very encouraging to hear a reinstall didn't help you, Henrik...

You guys wanna try disabling the sound card and checking out your results??

Just disable it in the hardware device manager section...

I did this and BF1942 was a LOT smoother...

I dont think its the video drivers...I have a feeling the sound card drivers / or / hardware is the culprit...

I seem to remember that BF1942 had some issues with hardware acceleration and SBLive cards. The mixer in the SBLive is an AC97 compatible. Ours are AC97 also. Might be a link there???

Thread Starter
the avance 97 IC (made by realtek) depends on the cpu a lot for doing whats its doing. Its the same as softmodem uses more cpu than a 'real' external modem. You often/always gets better framrates in your games by disabling sound. This is normal. The problem is when the driver is using a lot of cpu when the computer is supposed to be idleing. Then something is wrong.

If there is high CPU usage when you are on batteries then make sure you have the power profile set to "Always On" others will make the machine run like crap and always seem to cause CPU useage to be abnormally high all the time (including when idle).

The worst type of problem is the INTERMITTENT kind. I first DID NOT have it, then I DID have it... now I DO NOT have it... WTF?

When I had it, I didn't disable any hardware in the Device Manager, but as you can see from the screenshots above, I did kill a ton of processes...

Now, when I DO NOT have the problem, all the devices are still running as well as a ton more processes...

This boggles the mind... I'll try the sound card disable thing if/when it shows up next time.

Lmao

Hi guys sorry to laugh at that thread but it is just here to remind you one sure thing. M$ can't code for s*&t, in case you didn't know it before.
One solution to IRQ allocating and ( allocatable by THE user AS IT SHOULD BE ) => Linux = )

PS: Did i mentionned that samba 3.0 ( a project that has reverse engineered the windows networking protocol Server Message Block or SMB or as M$ lately revamped it CIFS, the Networking Neighboorood for the newbies ) latest benchmarks are 3 times faster than ...windows 2003 Server bench marks. What a joke. How can you be beatten in the implementation of YOUR own UNRELEASE UNDISCLOSED networking code / protocol ? They just can't code, and a are too little in numbers compare to the open source world.
Not a flame, just a fact.

Stupid me, I didn't read the whole thread or see Mrykats pix. I've deleted my post. Thanks.

A few re-installs later, I haven't seen this pop up, so I'm inclined to believe it was an MS update (or fukupdate as gsferrari coins it)...

I suppose MS quietly fixed a previous update with a newer one...
