I6000 Memory Upgrade?

alright, my system shipped with 256mb of ddr2 400 ram

im going to be upgrading probably to either 512x2, or 1gbX1.
there are 4-5 brands off newegg.com.

transcend
kingston
patriot
OCZ

priced in that order (ocz being the most)

should i just get 512x2 of the transcend, or what brand is good?
i have patriot in my desktop, and really no noticable difference from the crucial i had before...
and is 1gb plenty of ram? or should i just get one 1gb stick now, and one later in a year?
thanks guys

I just got a 6000 and replaced the Dell 256MB RAM with a 1GB Transcend stick (specs in my sig) I thought I would be better off getting a 1x1GB stick, so that in the future I still have one spare slot to add up to 2GB max if I want. Or, I can only add a 256 stick or 512 stick if I don't need to max out right away.

I would recommend either Transcend, as their prices were the best when I was looking 2 weeks ago when I bought, or other good brands are Crucial and Corsair, but I couldn't find the right type for my 6000 in those brands, so I went with Transcend.]

Good Luck and enjoy your 6000!! I've had mine for almost 2 weeks and it's awesome!!

If you want to save money, then get the cheapest. They typically are all good unless you plan on overclocking your mem. I have Kingston personally. Its usually more expensive but I got a rebate.

I bought 2x 512Mb of GEIL ram, and have had to send both back for replacements, one after the other, because they failed. I sent one of them in about 3 months ago, and it took over a month to get back to me, and i sent the other over a month ago and am still waiting.

How do you get $75 for 1gb? I see the price as $115 before shipping and tax?

Yes, please please do let us know where you're buying that 1x1GB transcend RAM for $75 shipped. I'm also in the market to get some more RAM for my soon-to-be-arriving 6000D

for a 1GB DDR533 SODIMM, Crucial charges $168.99 before any taxes or shipping

Yeah I paid $75 exc. taxes when I got my RAM on a trip to the USA earlier this year. I got each stick of 512Mb 333mhz ram for about US$82 each including tax.
