Micro Express CL5620?

I am just graduating high school, and looking for a nice new laptop to go to college with. I am looking for something very powerful, as I enjoy gaming as well as a variety of Photoshop and Premiere tasks. However I would like to keep the price between $1500-2000.

I have been looking around a lot at reviews and such, and an interesting laptop has crossed my eyes. The Micro Express CL5620 seems to be an excellent notebook at and excellent price with excellent reviews. It really seems to be too good.

This is a link to the manufacturer's website:

This s a link to the PC World review that was very complimentary:
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...,119418,00.asp

And it got one of the best WorldBench 5 marks of almost all ther laptops tested.

Should I stick with this laptop? Anyone have any thoughts or other suggestions? Thanks!

thats a CL 56... good computer...a bit old... and you can find it for alot cheaper... check around... i'd wait for the turion if you do any 64 bit apps... and you say you need it for college ill assume you dont need it until august... i'd wait till mid-june to make your purchase... dont buy until you absolutely need it... good luck

The laptop is competitively priced for a Compal CL56. mwave.com has a cheaper price but not by very much. As Burton mentions, it is about a year old and it's gaming performance isn't considered top notch any more. I've got one and I was happy with it's performance until it died. It's at the shop now.

Considering your budget I think you can get better than the cl56. What you should do is decide what size you want the laptop to be and what weight you're willing to deal with. I think you've already determined you wanted good performance and that gaming is a serious consideration.

Alright. Thanks for the input. And yes, performance is the biggest factor. Weight is really not a factor at all. Size is a little bit of a deal, but I am not overly concerned about it. The one factor I do worry slightly about though is the battery life. I was looking at a lot of laptop reviews and they are lasting only 1.5-2 hours. I need a little more than that...

I will probably use the laptop mostly for multimedia editting and school work. I have a beefier desktop I recently built that I will most likely use for my gaming purposes. But I still need a fast processor and decent graphics card with lots of memory.

I probably will end up waiting a while (mid summer or so) before getting anything, but a little voice wants me to get it in the next week or so. I am a counselor at a summer camp for seven weeks, and it would be really nice to have there. But I think I am going to wait for the Turion to come out, as it will be nice to have or just drive Intel's prices down a bit.

Thanks again guys!
