Dell X1 or 700m?

I am considering purchasing a laptop and mostly need it for school since I am a student. I would love something that is light since I am a female and something that will last long without an a/c cord.

I been looking into the X1 and 700m and I like the X1 a lot but price is still a bit heavy for me compared to the 700m; however, I am willing to wait a bit to maybe get the X1 if its better in regards to any... possible 700m flaws..

I would like 700m and X1 users to got of give me some feedback on the pro and cons of their laptop and maybe help me narrow down to which one to get. If anyone is also selling an X1 or 700m, please let me know for I may consider yours~

Thank you

Sarah

or Perhaps anyone has any other suggestions that will fit my needs: light, portable and tight price

I have a 700m and the only thing that I am a little wishful of is that I should have gotten the extended battery with it right off the bat. The standard battery lasts about 2-2.5 hours and the extended battery is said to go for about 4.5-5 hours. other than that the 700m is a perfect system.

I do DVD conversion/encoding and its quite fast at it. It even plays some games within reason. Its nice and light as well, so light I have to check the bag sometimes to see if its really in there. Also I have huge fat fingers as well (is that good or bad? ) and I have no problem typing on the keyboard. With you being female I would imagine you would have zero problems. The touch pad it quite large for the size of the laptop so its easy to use as well but I always use a wireless portable mouse.

And as always the screen is awesome. If I understand right the X1 is more business oriented and the 700m is more multimedia oriented so the 700m would be a better all-around computer is its your only one. I liked the X1 as well but the price was very high.

Also the 700m is rock solid so it should last a long time with a little TLC

Get the 700m with the extended battery. It will go 5 hours and you can do pretty much anything on it. I'm a student also and it works great for me, I can take it anywhere or just use it here at home!

How are the graphics memory, resolution and clarity of the two compared?
So with an extended battery on the 700m. Does it make the laptop heavy or is it a replacment of the standard and gives it more of a 3+ hrs?

The X1 looks nice (and what a cool name!!), but its soooo expensive, for less features than the 700m. Yes, its smaller, but is twice the price (from what i did on dell australia) really worth it? not to mention it has only a 1.1Ghz processor.

Just an opinion. Just depends on what you can afford.

Where are you? In the US, they have big coupons all the time, but here in Aus, we are lucky to get them twice a year!

Yes, US.
I went to the dell's site but even with the customize it is a bit over my budget. I still need to buy CD txt books (med student) and after that I will have roughly $7xx-8xx but do need a laptop.

Here's a site I used to find a $750 off deal for my i9300: http://www.dailyedeals.com/free_onli...ell_laptop.htm

You can also just Google "Dell coupons" and find other sites as well. When you go to dell.com, set up an account, and you can then store coupon codes under "My Coupons" found on the left nav bar of your account home page; copy & paste the coupon code into My Coupons, or you can link through the coupon site to Dell....Hope that helps.

wow so many coupons~
I am looking at the refurbished but still pricey after some things they seem to have added on? 9xx for a refurbished?

*sigh* this is frustrating
after several customize it all seems to end up in the $9xx range which I can't afford at the moment. I need to see if I can maybe get some more money at the financial office tomorrow. I can't believe this, they require us to have dvd text books but what if we don't have a PC? I am doing all this from my friends house but I Can't be at her house 24/7 which is why i need a laptop. What the school offers is out of my price too and they offer mostly MAC notebooks

What's wrong with this one?

Just add RAM and you're good to go.

Dellbert, thank you but I did add ram and it went more then I can afford at the moment.
Are the laptops able to install custom ram like if I bought it from somewhere else later on?
Yup, there are two RAM slots on the 700m, and you can add third-party RAM relatively inexpensively. Check newegg.com for PC2700 DDR 200-pin SoDIMMs.

yes, and i believe that is what dellbert was suggesting, to get some ram somewhere else. that one is a pretty good 700m deal.

Somebody else must have grabbed it. The outlet is first come, first served. Check again around 40 minutes past the hour.

the 8-cell is the one that lets it run to 5 hrs, correct?
