Dell X1 or 700m? - Page 2

Definately get RAM from elsewhere. Dell charge WAY too much.

yes, the 8cell is the one that'll last longer on battery. Definately get one from the Dell outlet if you're on a budget. With the current Dell coupons, the very best you can do is $400 off $1399+, so its still a bit over your budget. I've seen many 700m's in the outlet go for about $800-$850...with something like a 1.6GHz Pentium M, 40GB HDD, CDRW/DVD-ROM combo, and 256mb RAM. As long as its 200pin DDR333 (I think DDR400 is backwards compatible as well) Laptop SODIMM RAM, it should work fine. I very frequently see a 256mb stick sell for about $25 on the for sale part of forums like this one...or a 512mb stick go for about $50. I agree with MitchellO, don't get RAM from dell as they charge a lot for it heh. Good luck!

you can also try ebay for dell ram...most people who upgrade tend to sell their factory installed modules on ebay for somewhere near $25-30 shipped for a 256mb stick...it'll probably be the same kind/brand of RAM you buy from dell anyways since its coming from a dell system...

agreed..DELL charges WAY to much for ram that isn't even a real "brand" name anyways..

What about getting a dell financial account? It allowed me to get the laptop I wanted rather than the one I could buy with cash, which wasn't much.

Since you're obviously a pathetic starving student with holes in her Birkenstocks and more than likely perpetually hungry, I will donate a 256 meg stick recently removed from my very own 700m.

This offer is only good if you actually buy a 700m. If you do, PM me and I'll mail it to you. Maybe you can do my heart transplant for free someday.

Ok so I talked to the financial advisor today and got some good and bad news. I was told they can help re-imburse on a laptop; however, it has to be from school and a MAC. I am not fluent in MAC at all. I still prefer the 700m in a way since I more accomodated to windows.

This is why I am considering what you wrote; but my question is... how is Dell in this? I heard on here that they scam you with the interest rate really fast. You have to be approved for some premium to get no interest for a year but then can also change. Anyone experience this care to explain how all this works? online payment? is there penalty for paying off or late? interest rate changes?

Gee... thanks for being a sweetie and a sarcastic tulip-LOL.
If I do get 700m, I will let you know and yes I guess I would owe you a heart transplant for memory huh? except it wouldn't be PC memory I am talking about now

Thanks hun... ;p

Thanks everyone for your help, its hedious on the wallet for me right now but I will get through... somehow...

So I take it that I need to spend $1499 to apply the coupon?
If so, what would you recommend? cpu, memory upgrade? I like to get the 8cell battery as default.
Thank you, hopefully I can finally make a purchase...

It won't work until 8 AM, no clue what TZ. I just speced one with 1.6, 256, 60gb. remote control, extended battery and *MS Office Small Business* for 816 with discount, not too shabby!

even though it won't start yet, make up your mind first. Be ready to order right away, because that coupon will probably expire in less than an hour...
