ZV6000 or R4000Z

Hi,

I ordered ZV 6000 about a month back at costco which is due to arrive sometime next week. Today, I saw an advt. in OD, for R4000Z, which is equally a good deal I believe. Do I cancel my Costco order and og for OD or wait for ZV6000 to arrive?

Is one cheaper than the other?

Do you prefer one exterior over the other?

Would you mind paying $40shipping fee, waiting an add'l 25days & getting stuck with a 30day return policy & $280 worth of Mail-in rebates?

Actually I'm tired of waiting for the last 5 weeks. I thought ordering through OD will be much faster and that's the reason for my dilemma. If it is going to take another month, I'll as well continue my waiting on my ZV6000.

Yep...well this is the deal with leadtimes for these notebooks:

Since about early April, promotions were abundant from several sources for the zv6000...this resulted in a backorder. Now, new orders placed for this model are being shipped within about 15days.

However, since about 3 weeks ago they started to push the R4000 series. And, promotions for it became very abundant (& still are this week)...Thus, the leadtime for it is now 25-30 days (at least).

I ordered a R4000 from OD a week ago and the computer stated a 22 day build time. I'm curious if anyone has received theirs ahead of schedule? I can wait....that's not a big deal. I can deal with the build time delay.

My laptop has shipped!

Well, it seems that my R4000 has shipped. This is MUCH sooner than I expected. I was expecting it to arrive around June 15th. The tentative date for arrival is June 3rd. I just thought I would mention this for those who might be impatient(like I was). Your order might ship sooner than they are showing so keep your fingers crossed and check the order page often.

how much batery time do you get?
Only have the 8 cell battery. Time isn't great. Maybe a couple of hours at best. Havn't really clocked it. I would recommend the 12 cell purchase. Especially if ur gonna try gaming or intense programs on it. Oh yeah games are really good with the 200m ATI (128MB). Roller Coaster tycoon 2 and Ghost recon are great. Havn't had any lag, BUT havn't played them online either. Cause wireless is def. slower when online. Thats why I have the gamer below. Over all for the cost I'm happy, its not a stictly gaming computer, a gamer would run you 2200 and up. But for the price, 1100.00, this one does a more than adequate job. And will handle anything but the most intense games. I have a 1 gig ramstik on the way too.

I have heard and read this many times that ati radeon xpress 200m chipset has this 128mb on board and can also accomodate additional GPu .many reviews are doing the rounds too. IS this possible on this notebook.I will definitely buy R4000 the next instant and after that I will order the nvidia 6800 256mb GPu .nothing will beat this .Can some1 confirm this please.

I heard you can add additional video ram by using/taking from the ddr ram. The ATI is 128mb. As far as putting in a nvidia game card, prob not possible in this notebook. But remember if you want a gaming note book you should buy it built that way. Most using the 6800 are in the 3000.00 range.

Hey there,

thanks for the reply. BUt you can search for the xpress 200m reveiews by some reputed websites where they have included some powerful GPu's on this chipsets.I am confused .Can some1 ask HP ab8 this.??

I think you are getting confused between PCI express and the expresscard slot which the ZV6000/R4000 has.

There are different versions of the ATi Xpress 200. There is the 200m for mobile pc's, there are 2 more desktop versions each for AMD & Intel processors. These(desktop versions) are the ones that are most likely to be reviewed by tech sites and yes they do have PCI express slots where you can add dedicated graphics cards.

Hope that clears things a bit...

Right, I am only talking about the laptop version of the ATI 200 pci express. It has the 128mb built in ram and the ability to also use some of the ddr ram. I think it can do this automatically or can be set in the bios. As far as a PC setup, there you have several options.

I believed what you said until I went on this acer ferrari4000 link on amdboard. This notebook also has the same xpress 200 chipset. And it comes with x700 128mb. Now I am really confused.
