iBook G4 Pocket CD-R issue

Thread Starter
This is one of those big WHOOPS situations. My mom owns an iBook G4 and she wanted to put some photos on a disc for printing at a good print shop. My dad had a box of Pocket CD-Rs on his desk which he uses in his PC notebook. I forgot that iBooks have a different type of CD drive than most other notebooks and told her to put the photos on one of those pocket CD-Rs to take to the printer. If I had been there at the time I would have realised this was a bad idea when I saw and remembered the type of CD drive she has, but unfortunately I was not there and now the Pocket CD-R is stuck in her drive. We feel a bit dumb.

Anyone have any idea how to get this thing out? The computer doesn't even recognize it and obviously can't spit it out. Are we going to have to take it down to the Apple store and sheepishly ask for their help?

Thanks to anyone who has any ideas.

You can try shaking the computer, but I think you're going to have to take it to the Apple store.

Why they haven't built in some kind of way to use these disks in slot loading drives, however, is a mystery.

The first system Apple put a slot load drive into is the G4 Cube, and it accepts pocket sized CDs fine, as long as they are round.

The upcoming Nintendo console will also have a slot load drive that accepts normal discs, or the gamecube sized discs.

It is possible, but for some reason Apple hasn't used the drives that can accept them in the notebooks.

Apple doesn't have a whole lot of choice. Up until the 8x dual layer Pioneer drive, Apple had to choice from whatever Panasonic made.

i unno, i find that that the machine looks good and DIFFERENT from other laptops without the slot.

Although it is useful (the slot), I find the ibook interesting to look at.

+ I always felt that cd-rom slots are flimsy and can easily break off. but that's just my imagination ^^

Anyways, just use normal CD-Rs ^^
