Will an i6000 play battlefield 1942?

I'm picking my new Dell laptop and I don't want to spend much more than about 1200. I am a Battlefield 1942 nut and although I don't "have" to play this game on my new laptop it would be nice to be able to at those stressful moments. Is it possible on a 6000 with the 760 and 128 video. Or should I consider moving up to the 9300, or ughh - XPS at more than 2200?

The I9300 with the GeForce 6800 will handle Battlefield 1942 just fine, but I'm not sure about the X300. Someone with an I6000 will have to answer that.

What about the new battlefield 2?

I'd be inclined to point you to the I9300 for that. Your price will end up a bit above 1200 (if you configure it right you can keep it under 1300 though), but if you are looking for a laptop to use for gaming, the 6800 GO in the I9300 just offers so much more power than the X300...

For BF1942, the 6000 will do fine. For BF2, like SWB said you might want to move up to the 9300 but if you're getting a 6000 it should play it but I don't know how well. I'm even considering upgrading the video card in my D8300 just for BF2.

I am sure that the i6000 will play BF2, but probably not the specs or visuals that you are hoping for. A bigger more powerful graphics card will do that trick.

BF2 will smoke the x300 it just dosnt have the power my x600 struggled with BF1942

EA specs

Minimum requirements:
1.7 GHz CPU
512mb RAM
1.4 shader model videocard being ATI Radeon 8500 or above
NVIDIA Geforce FX or above (Geforce 4 series will not work).

Recommended requirements:
2.5 GHz CPU
1 Gigabyte of RAM
Radeon X800 or higher
Geforce 6800 or higher

WOW - great info, i never thought of going to EA for requirements. However, what you're saying is I need a conventional P4 with a 2.5 or better? The P M with the 2.0 won't do the trick?

The PM 2.0 will work fine as it is comparable to a P4 3.0.

what about the 6800 video card versus the 6800 ultra?
No doubt the 6800 is not as good as the Ultra but it should have no problems running BF2.

If my old 8100 with a Radeon 7500-64m gpu had few problems with the original BF1942 then a X300-64m or 128m, which is equivalent to the ATI 9600 mobility, will be even more able. Of course I didn't choose all options. But "play", even with a 7500: no problems here. Needless to say a better gpu can play it better with more options enabled.

I played it quite nicely on my i5100 with 32Mb MR7500. Can't remember the settings, but it worked quite ok.

Interesting how many replies, none of which from a person with an i6000/x300.

Fortunately, I have one. And it plays BF1942 (and Desert Combat, and Call of Duty) fine. It looks great on the screen, actually. I just hope BF2 works well on it.

HERE I COME TO SAVE THE DAY!
heh, i was noticing that too skechada
anyway...i have the 1.6 PM and x300 128meg OC'd just a smidgen, and it runs BF1942 fine, along with all its addons/mods...ect (DC is the best game evar)
anywho, it will probably play BF1942, but just not supurb. Im still hoping dell releases an x800 upgrade for the 6000d....i would buy it the day i could get my hands on it

I have a 2.0ghz Dell 6000d with the x300 and 1 gig ram. I just fired up battlefield 2 and was surprised to see battlefield 2 running so smooth. My settings are on medium to low on 800x600 and just moved it to 1024x768.

The 6000 w/x300 plays BF2 just fine. I've been playing the demo for days on it both online and offline. It pretty much has handled everything I have thrown at it: mainly bf2, bf:v,UT2004 and EQ1.
