Please post your luck with your wireless router - Page 2

Interesting. I posted ages ago that I was having the same problem. It's gotten worse too. I have a NetGear WGR614 and it has to be reset almost daily now. Today, I reset it twice. Time to look for another WAP. I have a Sony Z1 too, so I know it's not the Centrino chipset as some of you are speculating.

I use SBC DSL with an Acatel 1000 since day one. My 1st wireless router is a Linksys 11B that is 3+" thick (version 1) which finally died a few months ago and I switched to another Linksys 11B (the newer thinner version). Have no problem accessing with my 8104 on either one (I do try to stay current on firmware updates though).

Hm, well I dont know about all you people who claim to have no problems at all. I have had THREE different Linksys routers, two G and one B, a Motorola G, a Linksys G AP, a D-link B AP, tried with three different mini PCI cards, one desktop refuses to accept ANY PCI cards (three different ones, two Dlink on Linksys) and countless USB cards. Shoot, I've even put high-gain antennas, extra ground rods and power injectors, turned off ALL security in hopes that it would make a stupid wireless network behave properly. In my opinion, the moral of the story is DONT GO WIRELESS! Unless you want to completely reconfigure your router every 3 weeks, none that you purchase will ever not drop signal. The Linksys I have now works fine, except the DHCP server takes forever on it, but it completely poops out after a maximum of 6 weeks and has to be manually reset and reconfigured. D-link customer service blows, haven't tried Linksys, and the Motorola one was so bad, dont even go there.

Belkin Pre-N

I have the Linksys, D-Link and Netgear both b and g flavors. But I always had bad connection from my basement to my second floor. Moving the router is not an option for me.

I finally got the Belkin Pre-N because of glowing review by PC World and PC Mag. The Belkin Pre-N is by far the best for range and signal strength.

I do not work for Belkin nor do I sell them.

also got a belkin pre-n router and card, before the last router update it was a litte shaky( some reconnects, psp wouldn't connect, etc.) now it's top notch- speed has always been fast, with or without card.

Just got the wrtg54 Linksys from NewEgg I'll report back when I test it for a while. It had 74 reviews from NewEgg mostly good...beats my D link DI-784's piss poor review.

Crap.
Makes me glad I got rid of my DI-784 with same symptoms.

I did get my New Linksys WRTG54 going and so far its rock solid I did my homework on this one and so far it's been great and setup was even easier than the crappy D-Link.

i have used these in detail

Dlink DI-624 - Kicks ass i recommend this one i dont think mine was a rev3 i think it was a 2, ive never had a disconnect problem, been using it solid on bittorrent running 108Mbit wireless with a PCMCIA card for like 4 months (this 1 torrent took 3 weeks to download and it never disconnected)
Linksys WRT54G (first gen model too) - Kick ass, not as fast as the 624 but VERY stable, the only problem is that linksys keeps comming out with new firmware every so its kind of anoying to keep reflashing your router
Dlink524 - ok, kinda sucks actually, not nearly as many options to configure as the 624
Dlink514 - i concider this router disposable, it works but its slow

when they come out with 4-5 port gigabit routers ABG wireless i guess ill upgrade my WRT54G,

I'll never use another D-link product after the crappy support and premature failure I had with this one.

Hi, I don't 'claim' to have no problems, I HAVE no problems, both with the DSL-G604T here at home and with the DI 624 at work. They are both rock steady and provide a good signal. My home one reaches 3 floors down and outside in the garden, that's through two floors and one outside wall......

I'm using a DI-714P+ since last year to connect my 8790 (gigabyte wireless card) wirelessly. At first it didn't work, so I got an "enlightment" and reset it to factory defaults using the little button underside it, after that it worked while dropping the signal from time to time, but some days ago I had to format my 8790 (HD partitioning error) and after I installed Windows and Gigabyte's latest drivers my signal never drops and it stays on the "good" status (from 1st floor to 2nd through a concrete ceiling) using custom app (GN-WIAG as I can see).

The installation wizard is very nice and the router had no problems connecting to my PPPoE DSL connection (didn't choose Linksys because there are none in my city, see location).

Hope it helps someone since nobody here has used a DI-714P+.

Not sure about that one but my DI-784 was a nightmare.
It dropped hourly and didn't exactly have the most intuitive software either. I tried resetting it along with bios updates but nothing got that POS to work right. I'll swear by my wrtg now and it'll have to be pryed from my cold dead hands. I'm currently watching an item on Ebay with my tm 8104 on my lap wirelessly as I watch DVR reruns of lost and I never have to get up to reset my router!

LINKSYS ROCKS!!

I'm having great luck with a Linksys WRT54G, with a 3d part firmware (DDWRT).

I'm using the Linksys WRT54G at home as well, but with a WAP54G set to repeater mode also.

The WRT54G was located in the garage so it has to go through a insulated garage wall to get to the actuall house.
Signal would drop on the far side of the house.

WAP54G set to repeater mode with matching MAC filtering and everything is rock solid.

I have a "very good" to "excellent" connection everywhere in the house.

Linksys support is top notch. Very helpful.

I'm waiting on a WRT54GX for the work location. It's suppose to have better range than a WRT54G by itself.
We'll see later this week.

That's awesome it's nice to see there are a few companies left with decent support

I couldn't count with D-Link support in my country when I had the first problems, I'm really envious of USA citizens, they have the best products at the best prices but Im grateful that I didn't have as much nightmares as you guys.

Many complain about the software, what's with it? is it the window that opens when you type 192.168.0.1 or whatever or the connection manager? The setup wizard was just perfect for me, in 4 steps I was done.

Netgear WGT624 + Travelmate 8104 (Intel 2915ABG) with the latest drivers from the Intel website. No significant problems once the latest Intel drivers were installed.

Kind regards

Personally I think if you make it past the 6 month mark with no problems than the router is a keeper.
