Can I get some feedback on the Sager NP4880?

Thread Starter
Im looking at gettin a new laptop soon, hopefully a decent gaming one too.

The one thats sticking out for me right now is the Sager NP4880.

Specs are: pm 1.76, 1gb ram, 256ddr3 mobility x700.

How do you think this notebook will handle games, and maybe even the future? With all this crap about 64-bit makes me skeptical about gettin a 32-bit laptop now and not being able to use it in 1 or 2 years.

Thanks for the help.

longhorn doesnt even come out till the end of next year, and many programs will still be 32 bit for a while. i'd worry about the rest of your parts becoming obsolete before 32 bit becomes obsolete.

the people complain about poor viewing angles and screen quality on the 4880, but it is one of the few non widescreen notebooks with a x700 or go 6600.

also look into the 3880, a similar gpu, and widescreen, and the review claimed that it had a much better screen. also the asus z71v. widescreen, go 6600 gpu but clocked a little lower than the 3880's, and some people complain about a sparkly screen, but they also claim that it is hardly noticable. the asus z71v only weighs 6.5 pounds, whereas both of the sagers are almost 8 pounds.

if you dont mind having a big 17inch laptop, or mind having a dell, look into the dell 9300 with the go 6800 gpu and a hefty $750 coupon. you wont get nearly as much battery life or portability, but if those arent major concerns of yours than it is a great buy.

Don't worry about 64 bit right now. It will be time to switch for it next time you'll buy a comp. About gaming, the 4880 handles very well the latest games and i think it should get fairly good results for one or two years (of course it's not like a DTR with a 6800 go, but those are two different things).
About the screen, don't worry. Looking at the review from Adam may be frightening and it's a fact the viewing angles aren't the best you'll find, but the screen actually is far much better than it looks on pics. I got mine two weeks ago and have had so far no problem using it, it looks to be the same for other peoples that posted reviews here.

I think the main reason to choose between the 3880 and 4880 is wether you prefer widescreen and nvidia gpus or not.

If you really want to get a 64 bit proc now, then wait a little and get the ferrari 4000 or the aspire 5020 (or other brands if they come to offer the turion packaged with a good gpu).
