Not necessarily. One of the main benefits for a laptop is that everything can be packed together without a lot of extraneous wires. You don't even need a mouse if you are proficient with a touchpad.
When you consider that the XPS2 weighs only 8.3 pounds and is a 17" laptop, it's conceivable that in a year or two, that weight could drop even more noticeably, to perhaps 6 pounds? Or less? That would clear the way for more weight to be invested into the GPU(s).
Many people advised me against buying an 8 pound laptop, because it's "too heavy to port easily". Having been a desktop owner for 5 years, I cannot say I agree. This is the perfect computer for me, and if I had to tote a pound or more around for an extra GPU, it would merit serious consideration, especially if the second one could be disabled when not plugged into the wall.
That's just my opinion, but thinking there is zero market out there for such a product is most likely incorrect. Technology IS getting lighter, that's what affords us to game on the XPS2 with a Go 6800 Ultra. I feel it is still moving for the better. Computers can only get so small or light. I wouldn't want my laptop to weigh under 3 pounds, I'd lose the thing!
But 8 pounds is fine and I've never considered it heavy.
