Build My Own Z71v - Page 2

i to am building my own z71v, and i to am going to college. but i just got $2000 for graduating from highschool! i still dont want to spend more than $1600 though. I am going to get it from RJTECH, let them install my cpu, the wireless adapter, and it comes with a dvd/cd-rw drive. I dont need a dvd burner in my laptop i have a 16x dual layer in my desktop. I figure its easier to let them install the cpu and wireless adapter, and it will only cost me $25 more than ordering it seperatley and instalilng myself, and ive taken apart a laptop before, its not very fun. My question is if i want to install my own hard drive, is there a small hard drive bay that comes out to install the hard drive? my current comcrap laptop that im selling has one of these. This way i do not have to take apart the laptop in order to put in the hard drive. I know there will be a place for me to put in the ram, im getting 2 gigs of ddr2 533mhz for only $230. One more thing, Buying my own hard drive saves me $30 and its not much trouble to install. What is PATA? i know wat SATA is, and im not gettin SATA cuz they cost to much. On newegg they have ATA5, ATA6, and ATA7, which one of these do i get?

Well, I will *crossing fingers* be able to get a loan approved before August, so hopefully will be able to order by the end of this month/beginning of next month.. of course will let others know how things work out.

BTW, guess you're a MaximumPC reader too eh?

I'm a senior at Temple University Japan, majoring in Psych. I've been living with family up until now (which has saved a ton of cash) but in a little over a month family will be up and leaving Japan, meaning that I will need to live on my lonesome. As a student, I'd rather have something I can carry around (who knows where I'll be living in the next few months), thus my rationale for a lappy.

Also want something with a decent GPU since I've recently gotten addicted (scarily so) on Anarchy Online (mmorpg). Though I hear its GPU reqs are nothing compared to games such as EQ2, my current desktop is running a GeForce2 32mb :P which barely managed to run AO. Seriously thinking of looking at Wow and maybe EQ2, and I'm hoping that the Z71V will be able to take all that and more in the future. (though I'm not quite ready to start another mmorpg atm... already spending WAY too much time on AO as it is... I don't think my grades/social life could survive my playing 2 or more mmorpg's.......

P.S. mentioned that bit about MaxPC because I saw your post there

Not at the moment, no - I used to, but since my last reformat, I haven't reinstalled it.

And Smilepak, that's good to hear
