Inspiron 9300 Running on 65w Power Adapter...

Ok...so, I left my 90 watt power adapter at work and so I powered my i9300 up with a 65 watt power supply that I have at home for my work machine (a Latitude D600) and besides being warned that the system will not run optimally with a 65 watt power supply, does anyone see any problems running (temporarily) with a 65 watt power supply?

no problems here... but I'm using a 8600

Does the 8600 usually run on a 90 watt supply?

Check if the 65 watter charges the battery

Yes...it is charging....I don't think I will game with this because the 65w supply is getting warm. The i9300 was "smart" enough to detect the 65w supply and to warn me that I would not get optimal performance using that supply. I presume that if they put that kind of logic in, it would have been just as easy to put in logic to shut the machine down if it was something they would want i9300 owners to avoid. I was just wondering if anyone felt there would be issues using this config temporarily.

Okay....so, I couldn't resist. I just tried a round of Painkiller and wow...no problems. This machine is unbelievable! Running with 25 watts less than waht it should, it was operating just fine with the 65w supply. Now, I didn't jack the graphics way up, but it works fine.

Would think that the major danger here would be to that overloaded Power Supply!

My D800 has a chip installed that when it detects a "Non-Dell" Power Supply, (no matter the Watts) it not only prevents battery charging, but slows CPU from 2.0GHz down to 0.6GHz (30% of max speed).

I had a 90 Watt Lind DC PS that I had used for former Sony VAIO until Dell had Lind manufacture "Dell Approved" DC Power Supply.

Yes, check if the AC adapter is unusually hot, pimpin' hot.

Nope...never got "pimpin' hot". I believe this is an ok temporary usage. Would not want to push it over time though.
