i played for 10 years, was a goalie

hockey is superior to football in so many ways, the game doesnt stop every 10 seconds, the people hit harder (they are going faster) the game moves faster, the list can go on

U of I

Hey, crazycheddar...what's goin on. I'm here at the University of Illinois, too. While I'm not yet an official Sager owner, I plan to add my name to the ranks oh so very soon...I waited a bit and got the UXGA, now maybe if I hold out just a little longer...

Sadly, our football team blows this year, as much as it pains me to say it. That's ok, basketball is a much better sport, and we will take that this year, so it's all good!!

Doesn't matter though.... LSU is gonna win it all this year....
How do I know?
<------------- check my avatar. They wouldn't put it on the internet if it wasn't true!

dont i know it. picture me:

5'7"
155 lbs (14% body fat)
defence on varsity (high school)

some guy in a scrimage skated full blow at me and cross checked me in the face. there is a flap of skin that connects your upper lip to your upper jaw (for lack of a better word). go ahead stick your finger in your mouth and find it...

mine.... is ripped in half, horizontally. in all of the years i have played football the most that i have ever gotten injured was getting dizzy.

Football destroys hockey. You're crazy if you think the hits are harder.

Umm yeah sure.. and how do you expect lsu to bypass miami and FSU(Sure 1 has a loss coming in the future) but even that might not matter since these polls are made mostly on politics.. until the BCS comes out but it still has a bit of that too..and then they're are the other teams in the top 5..

But anyway shouldnt this be moved to off topic?

Well lets look who's in the top 5 (only ones ahead of LSU)
1. Oklahoma
2. Miami
3. Virginia Tech
4. Florida St.
5. Ohio St.

1. Stay undefeated, meets LSU in Sugar Bowl
2. Probably loses two games this year- plays FSU, VT, Tenn, Pittsburgh
3. They have an easy schedule, but do play Miami and Pittsburgh
4. Easy Schedule too, but play Miami and Pittsburgh
5. Not that good this year! Will probably lose two. Plays Wisconsin and Michigan the next two weeks.

So there are plenty of chances for LSU to move up. Plus we play a tough in conference schedule, and will probably play top ten 11-0 Arkansas last game of regular season, and then top ten Georgia AGAIN in the SEC Championship game. So we could pass some of the top 5 teams in the polls even without them losing.

atbear have you played hockey? if not then keep your OPINION to your self, i have sampled both sports and hockey is better. the hits ARE harder, because you ARE faster. on skates i could do a 40 in like 3.5-4 seconds. in football it is 5 seconds (i was tested every year) therefore going at a higher speed and hitting something will cause more pain. it is basic physics.

edit: also i have seen a helmet get completly crushed in a hit, and i mean cracked in half, and the metal was bent about 4 inches into the mask, in a HIGH SCHOOL GAME!

we shall see.. hard to tell until the BCS comes out since that's what really matters... only thing for sure is the Florida is pretty much through this season and will be lucky to even appear in a bowl most likely and if so it'll most likely be some toilet bowl
post #33 of 48
That's great, that's your opinion. It's not as simple as you make it out to be. It's a whole different way of hitting. They people are bigger and stronger in football, and you can actually push off the ground a jump, there's shoulder pads and helmets (don't try to compare a hockey helmet to a football helmet, cause you'll just embarrass yourself. Football players run 4.2-4.6 second forties.

So anyway, let's not argue which game is better, cause that's a matter of opinion. I choose football and you choose hockey....

I don't see Florida going to a bowl this year. They'll be 3-6 in three weeks, and I don't see that getting them into a bowl. As for the BCS, I don't like it, cause it's sooooo arbitrary. It is however mainly based on the polls, so they are a good measuring stick for the BCS.

who knows some team will probaly get overconfident and forget that they still have to play a football game... yes big games are coming.. but possibly the players can regroup.. they had a players only meeting on monday and remember that florida did hang in there against miami.. just let down the guard in the 2nd half and let miami make enough unanswered points to win.. we shall see.. it doesnt look good though you are right.

and notice I said they would be luckyenough to appear in any bowl.. meaning if this trend continues they most likely wont not even a toilet bowl....

Ok, I had a friend who played hockey. He played with a kid who lifted weights for fun. 6'2", 200 something pounds. This giant guy could accelerate pretty well, fast enough to pick someone up and throw them through the glass. Hockey hurts. And don't get me started on rugby.

4.2 -4.4 at college, im talking at high school dood. and on skates i could do it in 3.5-4 seconds.

i wasn't trying to start a flame war. i was just simply saying that hockey is better and takes more skill to play

That's great guys, really. It's a matter of opinion on what sport you think is better. I think football is better. And as for the question of toughness, I'd say it's a push..... but for strength, it's definately football, and you can't argue that. Skill-- both sports take a ton of skill. I definately wouldn't say hockey takes more.
i dunno dood, strength? football takes the cake. as for skill... you need to start out at a young age (i started out at 3) just to be able to skate good enough to make a high school team (i live in WI) as for football you can start whenever you want and still be VERY good.
