Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide
Here's the problem:
In the Windows Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation mark over Microsoft Kernal System Audio Device (which is under Sound, Video and Game Controllers).
When I double click on the exclamation mark and bring up the properties, in device status it says, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
I think this started when I installed the latest Realtek Audio drivers, version 1.20. So I uninstalled them and re-installled the original driver that came on the Sager driver CD. It didn't fix the problem.
Next I tried a system restore but that didn't fix it either.
Finally, I tried re-installing the Windows system files by re-installing Windows via the "Upgrade" option (in order to preserve my files and data) but that didn't fix the problem.
It doesn't seem likely that it's a hardware problem since, as far as I know, the sound chip is integrated on the motherboard, correct? So that just leaves software/driver conflicts.
Any suggestions about how to fix?
