If I get an ide hd and an ide dvd burner the only performance loss i should expect is on the burner ... right?
In which case I dont care.
Just wanna make 100% sure the performance loss will only be on the burner.
No, SATA is a much more optimized interface with faster cache and advanced options like command quereying, even if the SATA was beign emulated it should still be a faster hard drive. The performence increase I was talking about was burn times.
Can someone with a PATA drive with the same nero utility check and see if theirs shows up on different channels or just one?
Also, if their on the same channel burning will not be the only performence hit, anything involving the HDD and ROM drive will result in decreased performence....you could be listening to music, installing a program, burning, or something as little as windows checking the drive to see whats on it as it does randomly. Although my bet is most people would only notice this durring burning and installing something, because it prob adds minutes to burn times because data is beign transfered over one channel which slows thign down quite a bit.
Hey, does anyone know if the IDE channel runs at 66, 100, or 133 mhz?
