hard drive noise, NEW i6000

alright, i have had this computer for less than an hour.

the hard drive, aside from the normal seeking sound, is making this weird noise every 2-3 seconds. very annoying, and i will return it if dell doesnt remody the problem.

what is this noise? its the standard 4200rpm 40gb hd

If it is some soft ticking you are hearing, it is probably the regular sound your Hitachi drive makes. I think somebody had a solution to at least make the sound less noticeable, don't know exactly what it was though.

i think you can update the firmware? ive heard some people notice some differences after they did so...not sure if it was the WD hd though...try a search for it and something might come up..

downloaded the utility on dell.com says my drive is updated already.

i emailed tech, they might send me a new drive.
hmmmm.
