X6000 CD drive extremely noisy?

Hey everyone --

My brand new X6000 just arrived via FedEx today. Yay! It seems to have come through shipping okay, no dead pixels on the screen, etc. Things were going fine until I put a CD in the DVD drive (it's a DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive with dual-layer support) to install some software drivers. The drive is the noisiest thing I've ever heard! It's even noisier than the fans! It's a bit of a grinding noise, and sounds almost like the drive is trying to take off everytime it spins up. It's amazingly loud.

I took the CD out of the drive after the installation was done and it didn't look any worse for wear. (I'm a bit paranoid about this, as the X6000 is replacing a ThinkPad that had its CD drive go bad (among other things) and put a nasty scratch in one of my CDs.) I did some googling and couldn't find any complaints about drive noise, so I'm wondering if this is just me. Is this amount of noise normal behavior for the X6000's drive, or is something wrong with the drive? I hope not...I'd hate to send it back when I just got it.

Any help is appreciated--thanks!

i have a ze4610us and it has the same grinding noise, it doesnt hurt my cd/dvd's at all,its just how my drive is. Unless you are referring to a different grinding than i'm experiencing, you should be fine. if you're really paranoid, just call up HP and have them take a look, you should be under warranty.
